December 2019 Weather Discussion for the PNW

First real wind event of the season underway fairly weak one however. Hood canal bridge is closed currently due to wind as well. Should easily be the strongest southerly wind event so far this season.

For sure. 2007 was the last time there was regional Arctic air in January. 2008, 2009, 2012, 2013, and 2017 all got close but couldn't quite get there.

It may not have been arctic in origins per se  but when my small river freezes over, two mornings of 8f and several days with highs in the low to mid 20's, the cold was great.  I had snow on the ground for almost a week.  At 310ft not that far from PDX, I'll take that any day.  It sure felt arctic.  I don't remember much or any Gorge outflow here (maybe some out towards Gresham?).  I was really happy with that level of cold.

I didn't think the EURO was a total disaster. Sure not as good as the 12z GFS, but we all know that has no chance of happening anyways.

This is just sad...

I've triple checked this because I can't believe it's true but according to NWS CF6 data: #Seattle has not recorded a gust over 25 mph since Oct. 25. And 28 mph stands as our peak gust this autumn/winter :o April 6 was last time Seattle hit 30 mph gust. #wawx— Scott Sistek (@ScottSKOMO) December 31, 2019

One of the most dead boring nov/dec I can remember. I’ve only gusted above 10mph 2 days this month.

Euro has some lowland snow

I assume you're talking about 2017? There was definitely Arctic outflow through the Gorge for the Portland area, but I was talking about regional events.

This is true.    Wind is howling on the canal this morning!

Pretty breezy here but not crazy. Think most of the Puget sound region is supposed to have peak wind gusts this evening. Regional fireworks shows are in jeapordy.

Definitely a step in the right direction.

Even if we don't end up having snow and cold atleast were having a legit active pattern and not split flow. Plenty of mountain snow and rain finally. This pattern very well could deliver snow and cold however with a few minor tweaks to what is being shown.

Holy heavy rain!

some pretty heavy radar returns in the SW interior. Quilayute is expected to break their daily rainfall record today as well. Definitely a decent rain event for those not in the rain shadow.Rain shadow was keeping Tacoma dry for awhile but it's not doing a good job at keeping us dry anymore.

Elevation 580’ Location a few miles east of I-5 on the Snohomish Co side of the Snohomish/Skagit border. I love snow/cold AND sun/warmth!

Today might bump us to an average December rainfall. Looks a little snowy in the BC interior (the passes look more like ski slopes than roads):

Hit 50 a little while ago. Currently 49 and cloudy with breezy conditions.

Got the sheep moved down to the winter pasture this morning. Ready for whatever January brings.

Going to end up a pretty wet December for most of Western WA.

Western WA got the majority of the rainfall in October too while BC and OR missed out on some of the heavier totals. Then this month the same thing happened.
