December 2019 Weather Discussion for the PNW

This feels like a very un-Deweylike post.

Just like right now, we didn’t/don’t necessarily know if they were false starts leading to an actual play or if the players would simply run off the field and go to Arby’s.

Not even the EPS could save us back then. Only patience and compassion.

My preferences can beat up your preferences’ dad.

There were a lot of false starts in late November 2008.

I don’t remember any false starts in November 2008. I do remember washing my truck in shorts at the end of November however!

Elevation 580’ Location a few miles east of I-5 on the Snohomish Co side of the Snohomish/Skagit border. I love snow/cold AND sun/warmth!

I do, things started looking interesting in the long range right around Thanksgiving. There was a major pull back that led to a weenie freakout in early December too.

There was also quite a bit of weeping and gnashing of teeth on 12/14/08 when the snow with the arctic front was confined south of the Columbia River.

.77" here in Bellingham according to my weather station, temp has ranged between 44-48.  I'm on the north face of a hill so we don't get the full wind effect, but it has definitely been breezy here.

On a side note, I got my wife to start looking at houses in Maine/New Hampshire :-D

Kids are grown, and I think we are getting tired of Bellingham, plus my neighborhood appears to be ground zero for the next wave of development.  I sure as hell don't want to move to Seattle.  We want to stay on the coast, I want to stay where we can see snow, so the New England Coast seems like a good place to go!  The big challenge will be finding work without having to commute to Boston.

First thing that jumped to my mind. Storm of the Century “Steven King”

Make sure that guy isn’t living near the area your possibly moving too.  Of course the storm portrayed in that movie would be awesome!!!

Eugene managed to pull off a 27/10 on 12/16/08. It sucks they were already clouding up by midnight or they would have easily made it well into the single digits.

Wow usually I remember those details, well hopefully we will have the same outcome as December 2008!

Housing prices are incredibly affordable in NH and Maine. I applied for a job in Camden last month, but my wife says not until her parents are gone...

With the equity I have in my home I could probably buy cash out there. On the other hand I like living here and I like Oregon, even if our climate can be frustrating.

Crazy you bring this up. Just this morning I was contemplating about 2019 and 2020, and thought about what happened when time passes. About how cool some places are already in the new decade and some are still behind. Stephen King’s “The Langoliers” came to mind, then “ Storm of the Century” immediately followed. These 2 were easily my favorite ministries.

I remember that.

Seems like there was a similar deal with OLM on 12/19 or 12/20, where they made it into the single digits but easily could have dropped further if clouds didn't move in very early in the AM.

Lol!

Langoliers was a great movie but Storm of the Century wins because of the Blizzard!!!

I hit my lowest low temp of the December 2008 extravaganza on the morning of the 20th! -2F GOD that was such an awesome stretch of winter weather!

Euro was showing 55-70kt gusts for nw Washington and SW BC on the maps I saw. Damaging winds if that verifies.

Seems like I’m going to have to start traveling to see any excitement...

I want to stay near the coast (which pushes the prices up a bit).  Found one house that would have been perfect, and was covered in about 4-6" of snow, but I need to figure out the job market first.  I still need to pencil out our housing budget, property tax appears to be almost double what I am paying in B-ham.  I pay about $4k in taxes, and it looks to be $7.5-8k for a house of equal value out there.

I have a good friend who lives near Portsmouth on the NH/Maine border, and I plan to pump him for information.

I don't really want to leave Washington State, but I am not liking the direction that Bellingham politics is going, and I really don't want to live or work in Seattle (even though I have applied to Alaska Airlines, Amazon and Microsoft).  My wife and I are taking the next couple of months to figure things out.  If we do stay, I might look into something down in Mossman's neck of the woods, or maybe up towards Tim's world there towards North Bend.

Truly amazing how cheap the North East is outside of the major cities. Much different than any western state.

Here’s a 777 landing on a gusty day at SeaTac.

Personally, I wouldn’t want to be on it.

You sound like a spoiled br@t sometimes. All in good fun though kid. We all would love some weather. I haven’t had any either since the day before bird day, aside form the few brushes of freezing fog or the one wind event we had about two weeks ago. Not much for central Oregon.
