Yeah that is absolutely horrific. I wonder how it started. Also I’m pretty sure Lahaina averages like 9in of rain a year so they don’t get a lot of rain. The Terrain on the south and west side of the island pretty much reminds me of eastern WA.

It was really nice driving through the Umatilla forest Monday with the rain coming down. Eastern Oregon needs the rain and it was quite a relaxing sight watching steady stratoform (and cumuloform!) rain fall on such a parched landscape.

.03" out of the storm this morning, thankfully I was able to get diversion trenches dug before the flooding got too bad on my property.  My neighbor is in the middle of getting their roof replaced, and thankfully the crew got the tarps up in time.  We both really dodged a bullet there.

Currently 71 with occasional sun breaks.

Heat wave coming to the PNW next week.  A reminder to all, come to Everett's waterfront to cool off. Check out the ongoing summer events and lots of great restaurants! Take the free ferry with family to Hat Island (5 min boat ride) and have a picnic, play on the beach, etc! Temps here will be low 80s (likely just high 70s) compared to everyone else's high 80s and 90s.

Some good news on the smoke forecasting.  The biggest producer of smoke in the PNW (outside of BC) is fires in central Oregon.  It is all blowing east.  That of course will likely change when we have the heat wave next week, and any change having winds blow west or north could be bad for the region.  But for now, clean air for mostly everyone in Washington and Oregon.

I've seen way too many of these kinds of videos over the past five years. If there is are a couple things to take away, have a go bag ready and don't ever get out of the car when you're in an area surrounded by flames. Super heated air will kill you in a couple of breaths or less.

Current view from my dads room in ICU at the hospital in Everett. He is far from out of the woods but he is at least more stable over a few days ago. Seeing your parents aging and having more serious health problems is not an easy thing.

Sorry to hear that. Both my parents passed away in the past several years. Thankfully, they both managed to live until their 90’s and basically lived at home until the end (they both died at home after being released into home hospice care after brief hospital stays).

Sending you and your Dad all the best vibes. I think I was in that exact room you were in while my wife was in the ICU a few months ago. The black forest ham on pretzel bun sandwiches were pretty good.

Not sure if this is the unpopular opinion but I’m kinda over the heat. I miss the cool cloudy days like today and I really hope next week’s heat wave isn’t unbearable. Can’t wait for fall.

That's a popular opinion around these parts. I love the fall!

Lol ain't no way that's an unpopular opinion. Fall and winter are goated, and fall is my favorite season. Chillier darker days with rain pouring outside while drinking evening coffee to football on the TV. The way the autumn sun makes the yellow and orange leaves sparkle a bit.

One of my uncle's side of the family is Hawaiian and they're in absolute distraught right now. Most of their family is safely in Oahu but know plenty of close friends who live on Maui. I know a guy who lost his house too in Lahaina.

Just horrific devastation, the perfect storm of things coming together to make a Paradise 2.0. A hurricane down to the south fanning the flames just had to be there 😔

Yeah I’m still in shock that it happened there. I always knew there would be another Paradise situation but I would have never guessed Lahaina to be it.

84/64 at PDX today. And today was the cool down day. Looking at next week, this month will easily be on track to be their hottest month on record, beating last August.

Just rolling on with the same old crap. It never ends. Year after year.
