Wow.  Interesting.

I actually did not disagree with the point of the tweet.   Extreme heat events are becoming the norm out here.  The last 3 summers have been particularly insane.   That is not debatable.    I just think a tighter definition of extreme heat makes the point even stronger.   Don't call anything above low 80s "extreme heat" or you unnecessarily lose credibility.    There has been plenty of actual extreme heat.

i believe he was trying to show patterns of above normal 'heat'. His true intent was to point out the ridiculousness of the last 3 summers in Portland, that was the point, that was the tweet.  do we have a trend?  maybe?  climatological norms are obviously averaged over a decade.  it'll be interesting to revisit in 2030 to see how many extreme heat events Portland has in that 10 year period.  10 of 10, 7 of 10, 5 of 10?  is this the last hot summer for 7 years?  all things to consider.

American WX seems to have more actual Mets and Climate scientists on there.  east coast based, talking noreastas and hurricanes.  I found it way before I did this place.  I guess because I was east coast based my whole life until 2012.

American WX's ENSO discussion seems to be more in depth and thorough as well due to prevalence of more METs

Not many people are super interested in talking ENSO here. I know many members think its correlation to observed weather here is overrated. Phil is an exception and I appreciate his contributions on that end.

The fire is to the north of town. In the nahatlatch area.

So I see:

https://globalnews.ca/news/9903928/tactical-evacuations-ordered-due-to-wildfire-northwest-of-boston-bar/

It is still a little too close for comfort. Fires have been burning through distances like that in matters of hours.

It's called clown range for a reason.

I've noticed.  It's big on my list which anecdotally seems to be with east coast based folks for some reason.  I'm more into Climate than weather per-se from a personal perspective and just getting a handle on the climate patterns in this area of the country.  I still believe it's super important and influential

Our interests are similar. I know 2009-10’was an amazing winter in oklahoma and that was a Nino, 06-07 was too. Fortunate I got to experience both those out there and then was back here for December 08’.

The wording seems weird to you because it cites a scientific study for its methodology, which makes comments on being an "alarmist" funny since the tweet explained where it got its conclusion instead of taking a surface glance and immediately yelling at clouds.

This forum is the climate version of phrenology, just wild how far people on here will entrench themselves in politics to the point they goosestep around and over science until another quack shows up to reassure them that their unearned authority that stems from having an undergrad-level understanding of how to read/ride models is actually legit and not 100% doctrinaire samethink (which it actually is).

Don't get mad--I don't expect any of you to--but this forum is a toxic blight parading as pop science. The folks bringing legit science are constantly, desperately trying to stay above your taint and I feel sorrow for them. They're trying and it's wasted on those of you who are over here gooning because "lol its named hilary where are the emails lmao" or whatever the comments on news websites are saying now.

Just lol at the resident clowns in this low rent circus

Why did you join 9 years ago and only post now?

EasternWx forums died when Marcus dropped off the face of the earth. Still not sure what happened to him, we used to communicate regularly, then nada.
