October 2023 Weather in the PNW

Recommended Posts

50F at UWT. Was appreciating the contrast of colors between the blue and darker gray skies. Caught a faint rainbow too on the left.

It blows my mind how many of the Washington posters on here have never been to Oregon, or hardly even go to Oregon. Washington is great, don't get me wrong, I was there last Tuesday, but y'all should really get out more.

I've lived out here for 10 years and I think I've been to Oregon maybe 6 or 7 times. I like it, it's just too far away. I've never gone past Portland on I-5, I'm taking a plane if it's a longer drive than 3 hours.

Astoria, Seaside, and Cannon Beach are true gems to go to. Last went there maybe 3 years ago with the fam and I fully intend on coming back, this time by myself.

Life happens for people I guess, but for me it would be very difficult to imagine as long as I'm in the PNW not taking semi-frequent trips around the region. I feel like OR/WA/southern BC are so interconnected and easy to navigate between.

If I can’t fly there first class then have a vehicle of some sort haul me from the plane to the location in under 30 minutes, it’s not worth seeing.

Funny, I've driven to the coast and back, Rainier and back in a day.  Just have to get out.  After my stroke, just a reminder that you never know.

Meanwhile, pouring rain here at home and down to 43, my low for the day.  0.91" yesterday and up to 0.63" for today.

Bellingham and back is the record for me in my more adventurous era. Had to sign a lease up there and be back in Vancouver the next morning.

Long story why (9/11 was a big factor) but a friend of mine and I did Seattle to Salt Lake City and back in one shot, sharing the driving. We were there for all of about 45 minutes.

My sons did Boise and back in one day to pick up a car... and that meant both had to be driving on the 8 hour trip back.

Crystal clear here now.  Should be a solid freeze tonight.  Ended up shovelling the driveway cause it wasn’t going to Melt out before it likely freezes tonight.  We had over 3” of liquid fall yesterday and there is still some snow melting out of the gauge.  Would have likely been a monster snow storm later in winter.  Possibly 20-30”+

It had melted a fair bit by sunrise.  We ended up with 4”.  Lots of tree damage on the deciduous trees.  Power, internet, cable, and cell phones have been down most of the day here.  Seems like things are coming back online now.

Overnight melting like that is a classic sign of a snow event caused by heavy precip dragging the freezing level down.

Heavy rain and some rumbles of thunder. Temp dropped to 42 with this line of showers, which is the new low for the day. Even saw a few positive splats on the windshield pulling in. Picked up a quick 1/3” and it’s still coming down.

48/42 spread here so far. First sub-50 high since 4/20.

This winter is going to be epic from Everett north! Also the Kitsap peninsula along with a line from Cle Elum to Spokane and north!

As someone who's been there like eight times in the last 3 years, hard agree.

I was in Oregon a year ago! Before that it had only been about 36 years since I was there.
