A little surprised at the lack of enthusiasm. Not much to complain about - one of the coldest January blasts in decades with potential for more cold down the line.

Also snow precipitation shield is often further north than modelled. Plus the arctic front will likely be full of surprises. They often are. I am sure many of us will see snow and deep cold. It will very much feel like winter. In January!

High-res WRF has a band of very heavy precip tomorrow morning between Seattle and Everett. Would likely be too early for snow that would stick around as modeled, but still nice to see such intense banding show up.

I got 0.72" of rain yesterday (highest total in over a year) and last night got 0.10" of 32.7 degree rain. When the rain finished the skies cleared and it dropped to 30 flash froze everything.

At least he won his last ballgame. And was there a snow game up there for him during his Seahawks tenure? I remember them playing in like temperatures close to 5F at Minnesota in 2015-16.

If nothing else, if this forecast unfolds like the EC has been showing, I'm going to enjoy the hell out of us following the surface Arctic front move from Vancouver, BC down to the Umpqua Basin.

Could just be that I’m still bummed by Saturday’s most likely bust that I’m in a downer mood, but I’m just not feeling it for tomorrow at all other than a few flakes in the air that will melt before the temps drop low enough. Will definitely still be watching the hi-res models though.

Yeah I don’t have a great feeling either. I usually always have a feeling that crazy surprises will happen, but the lack of over water trajectory with the trough is rough. Won’t be a ton of moisture to work with. The thing to watch for us is if the CZ stalls out for a bit or is heavier than forecast

26 years ago RIGHT NOW rain was SLOWLY  beginning to change to SNOW in the metro area near the gorge and in Clark County. My ‘88 S-10 was put through its paces during this event and we had a blast.

12/26/2021 vs. Chicago was a snow game. Pretty good Arctic Front snow for most of the Puget Sound that day.

I'm pumped for the cold up here. I'm used to the outflow winds eating most of the moisture in these situations so I wasn't shocked to see the snow totals dropping.

I wouldn't mind Harbaugh or Vbrabel. Vrabel is similar to Pete and with him staying as an advisor, would help a lot.

This one is a shocker. Sad day.

Saw that they were harvesting the last of the Brussels sprouts here yesterday in the valley. We've left root vegetables in the garden for the last couple of years even when temperatures dropped into the single digits, but that was always with a healthy snow cover. Might have to harvest a bunch of stuff before the flash freeze since we won't have any insulation this go around.

You have never heard of Pete Carroll?   You have lots of employees and have interfaced with the public in the Seattle area for the last 14 years since he arrived.  I guarantee the words "Pete Carroll" have entered your ears probably a million times.  😀

It really depended on where you were at.  We have over 20 micro climates in the Metro area.  Trace at the valley floor in spots to several inches at 1K in the West Hills.  Hit and miss.  I'm 315ft near the Cascade foothills and never saw a flake and ended up at 37 for a low.  Clark Co. did well.  Some spots had a little snow south of the Metro but melted pretty fast.  Don't know if there was any officially at the airport.

I'm half-way between Portland and Longview on the Oregon side of the river. Got a couple of inches per "trained spotter report." But we tend to do well in marginal events (as long as there's moisture). We're away from the direct gorge effect and also the Portland heat island.

Minimal at the very onset then switches quickly to ice. Would be several sub-freezing highs after that tho.
