Partially correct in that it isn't the earliest. But they broke a monthly September snowfall record which was originally set in 1926. I dug up a facebook post of mine from last year (09/28/2019) "A RECORD SNOWFALL OF 1.9 INCHES WAS SET AT THE SPOKANE INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT YESTERDAY. THIS IS THE FIRST MEASURABLE SNOWFALL RECORDED ON THIS DATE SINCE RECORDS HAVE BEEN TAKEN IN SPOKANE BEGINNING IN JANUARY OF 1881. THIS SNOWFALL TOTAL ALSO BESTS THE PREVIOUS MONTHLY SNOWFALL RECORD OF 1.4 INCHES SET DURING A ONE DAY SNOW EVENT IN 1926." 2 Quote Ashland, KY Weather '23-'24 Winter Snowfall - 5.50" First freeze: 11/1 (32) Minimum: 2 on 1/17 Measurable snows: 4 Max 1 day snow: 3" (1/19) Thunders: 19 1/27, 1/28, 2/10, 2/22, 2/27, 2/28, 3/5, 3/6, 3/14, 3/15 3/26, 3/30, 3/31, 4/2, 4/3, 4/8, 5/4, 5/5, 5/6, Severe storms: 2 ------------------------------------------------------- [Klamath Falls, OR 2010 to 2021] https://imgur.com/SuGTijl

Timmy Supercell
There's definitely something to latitude vs. altitude in snow events. I have yet to see measurable snow earlier than about Oct 30th (2011) at my place. And for snow to be on the ground on Halloween day is almost unheard of here, that must have been 20-30 years back in this area.
