That was a really close call.  We got on the right side of the Arctic front for about 12 to 18 hours which gave us some snow and decently cold temps, but it retreated quickly.

I remember it started snowing and sticking for a bit, maybe 0.2" at most or something before turning into graupel.

M's looked good tonight. Tomorrow will be nice. High in the mid 70s and low in the fifties. Fall is my favorite season and I love days like that with the exception of the wind.

My son was at the game... said it was a playoff atmosphere.   Not that anyone in Seattle would actually know what that is like.  😀

That is awesome.    I remember taking my sons to games when they were around that age and they didn't follow the game at all.   It clicked for them around age 9.    Now my son at UW is fanatical about the Mariners and baseball in general.

No problem.  It's certainly something along those lines.  In a way I don't want to change which makes it hard for any therapy to do much good.  Klonopin has certainly helped if I go too far down the rabbit hole.

If I was that obsessed with it being cold... I would move heaven and earth to get to a place that is consistently cold and snowy.   Like Bozeman.  👍

Clicked for me when I was about 12 and my brother when he was about 9. My sister was the only one who didn't like baseball for a long time until she started playing softball when she was about 15 and really got into it then.

I only wish we had cable because otherwise my son will have to listen to radio only. Anyway we entered a raffle and if we win we'll be on the west side in two weeks.  He kept asking why they don't play baseball in the winter and I explained about the roof and how some other teams don't have one. Pretty hard to play baseball at Randy "Minnesota" Mossman's house under 10 inches of snow. My son prefers summer as a season sadly.

January 2020 was also fun up here!

That little frontogenesis event on the night of the 14th lifted an incredibly heavy band of snow to the north across the Olympic peninsula and southern Vancouver Island. We had 15” that night with close to 12” in only 4-5 hours.

If the Dec 2021 Arctic event had been shifted one day earlier, Christmas would have been the best in recorded history. 23/17 spread with 5" of heavy blowing powder on Boxing day.

I mean it was pretty darn good up here. I picked up just a bit of snow on Christmas Eve that had melted by Christmas morning as the temperature rose to 37F by 10 a.m. Then the first part of the arctic front finally made it down from the north and the temperature dropped to 34F by 11 a.m. and we picked up about half an inch of snow. It dropped below freezing by 3 p.m. and snowed for most of the rest of the evening as I picked up 5" by midnight with a temperature of 24F.

The temperature continued dropping the entire next day until it hit 9F around 10 p.m. on the 26th. I wouldn't really make it above freezing again until the afternoon of January 1st. I'm not sure I could draw up a more perfect Christmas than that, although I guess we could have started with an inch or two on the ground on Christmas morning.

Eh.. I beg to differ. Last Sept was  great playoffs atmosphere even though they fell short. I went to a few games late in the season when they were in the hunt and it was electric at the ballpark. Pretty sure a ton of excitement tonight is from the Julio contract announcement as well :)

And yes.. I know you're just joking on the bolded part too :D

There are many people on here that I feel would live much happier lives in a snowier/colder climate if they were able to move. Obviously notwithstanding financial/family reasons.

The whole "living in the PNW just makes the snow even more special!" thing is just not true. If that's what gets you through the predominately rainy and gloomy winters then so be it, but I can attest that I am so much happier in a snowy/cold climate now than when I lived in Portland. And we lived in the West Hills! So if anyone is on the fence about moving to a snowier climate, do it, you won't regret it!

I've said this before but I'll say it again. I prefer a mild oceanic climate like Seattle or Portland. The one when I lived in Cannon Beach was a little too extreme but being from CA I like rain. Where I am now in EWA was within our budget (specifically why we moved since we could never afford anything in Stanwood / W. WA). But we do get more snow events overall than the west side. But West Side can get more snow  in a single event due to moisture.

I like the variety of the climate in EWA. Seattle is a bit more consistent. But Mediterranean climates such as NorCal are too boring for me.

It’s rather different in my case. I do find that the rareness of significant snowfalls here makes them more special. I’ve lived in colder, snowier climates and beyond a point I get sick of the snow and wish it were warmer and greener (like our winters).

Of course, I moved from Portland to Seattle to Bellingham to Vancouver. Anywhere north of Skagit County gets significantly more affected by cold air outbreaks from the interior. I really like that. It’s just not quite as hard to get a decent lowland snow event up this way. For years, I thought it would be a net win if I could find out a way to make moving north work. It was.

Yeah even though it was sloppy, waking up to a white Christmas morning was amazing! Was plowing the driveway by early afternoon, was magical by Christmas evening, and the morning of the 26th was even more spectacular!

We ended up with 17 inches during that period here. Christmas Day itself was not bad. Mostly wet snow during the day. I live at about 600 feet. Christmas night was getting really good and the 26th was amazing.

There was a very heavy band of snow that hung out over SE King County stretching into Ravensdale into Enumclaw. Was an amazing week!!

Yup watching other places get hammered every winter while I have to wait 5+ years for a bonafide blizzard is not fun. And it’s certainly not “magical”. Not gonna lie to myself and say otherwise.

I do love the PNW landscape though. It’s much prettier than here IMO and probably even more so in the snow. Problem is I love thunderstorms too and I’m not sure there’s enough convection up there to satiate me. If I go so much as 1 week without a thunderstorm in the summer I get antsy.
