July 2018 Weather in the Pacific Northwest

Recommended Posts

Looks like PDX only got to 72 for a -10 high departure today. Models had PDX in the upper 70s. I'm very surprised by this especially since everybody has been saying the heat has been exaggerated because of the UHI. This just shows you PDX can still get negative anomalies even in the heart of summer, the pattern just has to be right. High temperatures should be close to 30 degrees warmer in about a week.

PDX would have seen a 69/57 day today sans UHI.

GFS ensembles seem convinced that the heat event next week won’t be as extreme or as long as the operational runs suggest. May just be a matter of time before they jump on board though.

In the Canadian you should trust.

My preferences can beat up your preferences’ dad.

Was a chilly day.

It was chilly.

There has only been one day in the last 3 months this far below normal at SEA... that was also a -4 on 6/10.

It’s amazing outside here in Everett. The air feels so much lighter and cleaner, like a mid-October evening back home.

And it’s dead quiet. No crickets, cicadas, or katydids. I could definitely get used to this.

My first evening here and it’s already colder than anything I’ve seen in months. We’re definitely sleeping with the windows open tonight.

Low of 49.6 today.  I can deal with 80.  Not looking forward to the heat again.  Although having central air now does tame how much it affects me.

With the projected highs for the next week, this July is running just about 0.5 degrees hotter than my hottest.  2.5 degrees above the warmest average high. Sigh.

Raining here in north Seattle and not just mist but a solid rain! Nothing showing on the radar which is odd.

That is strange.

Radar is empty... and clouds look pretty thin on satellite.

That sort of thing happens here all the time... but not too often in Seattle.    :)

It was a beautiful evening yesterday in Bend. Highs have been in the low 90s while I have been here. However, the evenings have been very pleasant as the temperature drops quickly and there has been a nice breeze. We had a BBQ at one of the parks in town for the conference I am attending. We decided to do the two mile walk from the hotel along the river to the park.

The 00z EURO run last might makes me excited for winter already. Tremendous amplification of the ridge up into Alaska sending very cold anomalies into Southern Canada. This is a winter type pattern so for us to see it this early is a good sign for what's coming later this year. We just need the ridge to amplify more west and we will have a very cold and snowy winter here in the PNW.

I doubt it. The EURO almost always has been too cold with the highs since April for PDX. It was way off yesterday. The UHI exist but it's been overblown and yesterday it had no effect on the highs IMHO.

You’re wrong about that.

Come winter you'll be pounding the UHI drum to explain why it isn’t living up to 1968/69’s standards.

If there was an UHI yesterday would have been warmer, forecast high was in the upper 70s.

Once again you are lying and twisting people's words. I never said it would be as cold and snowy as 1968-69. Just the coldest and snowiest since that winter. Big difference.

Not how it works.

Huge difference. Okay.
