Humble too!

Just common sense. Nothing supernatural.

People can get hung up on the fact a three week -PNA/-EPO cataclysmic flow of climate throwback euphoria is unlikely but at the very least some decent blocking looks possible. I’ll take that over the indecisive onshore flow of the last several weeks. B+!!!

Nice and sunny at least. I know we need the rain here but if we aren’t going to get snow much ever again down here then I just assume it be nice during the day. Can at least get outside and the kids can get energy out.

Park was packed with kids this afternoon. So nice to have these breaks in the winter.

Went to Mary's Peak west of Corvallis yesterday. Was incredibly beautiful. Not packed at all, but a steady stream of people taking the rare opportunity to drive to the top of the 4,097' peak in the dead of winter. Unbelievable views of the Willamette Valley and Cascades from Diamond Peak north to Mt. Rainier.

Can you even see into central Oregon from there? I know it’s a fun and easy to access spot to see some snow in a lot of years.

No you can't see over the Cascades, Mary's peak is only a little over 4,000' feet tall.

Enjoyed seeing the old weather channel crew! Thanks for posting.

If that is the storm i am thinking of it dropped 32 inches at sea level in Hoodsport on the hood canal over a couple days. There was 60 inches at lake cushman and people had to bw rescued. There was over 3 feet in parts of western Kitsap county.

We come from the land of the ice and snow.

The way I understand it since the cold is less spread out it can sometimes cluster into geographically smaller but more intense pockets. See Baffin Island.

Yes exactly. And that cold kind of swings around sometimes, more now I bet, so places like the south end up setting snow records like last year or the year before.

Hard to believe that’s possible considering how bad this winter has been.

At least for now I'm liking the way the models are looking for late in the month.  Nice to see some really cold ensemble members popping up.

This is an incredible pattern coming up. While not everyone will score, few will miss completely.

I still think 1978 is the best large scale analog, but that doesn’t mean it will match on the edges. A retrograde and backdoor blast is still a real possibility for you guys out west, even if a classic -PNA/1950s type pattern is off the table.

For anyone who enjoys tracking historic storms or wants to chase a blizzard and has time within the next 3-4 weeks:

- there’s the potential for a bomb in the Plains/Central US between the 22nd and the 25th of the month.

- there’s the potential nor’easter next weekend that could dump a bunch of snow on someone

- there’s the big kahuna..the “archambault event” grand finale nor’easter during the last few days of January and first few days of February, as the pattern climaxes. This one could be a monster

As a nerdy, obsessed weather weenie addict, amplified patterns like this get my blood pumping. I’ll drive to the most exciting stuff if it doesn’t come to me. ☝️

There were a few patches here and there, but essentially none. I would imagine Mary's Peak doesn't get the type of snowpack you would see at a similar elevation in the Cascades as it is a bit more impacted by the effects of the Pacific.

If i were to go out there where do you think would be the best place?

Around here? The plateau area between Leesburg VA and Germantown/Damascus MD is a magnet for intense deformation banding. They often double-up our totals, and always seem to get more than the models predict.
