This run basically goes against the GEFS, GEM, EURO, EPS, ICON, FV3, etc... Outlier? Hard to say until 6z GEFS and 12z runs.

Absolutely unbelievable how bad the 06z was. It was on the "warm" side of the ensembles, but they were a also a major step back.

Good news is the gfs has been a total pos with this. Hell the icon had this pattern before the gfs.

FV-3 is not nearly as bad. It's actually a little better than its previous few runs. No significant differences on the ICON either.

NAM seemed pretty robust with the cold air too...A few hours and we'll see if the GFS was just a fluky run or if it was on to something.

Do you expect rational thinking from a group of weather geeks hitting refresh hundreds of times a day to see one more 6-hour increment in a weather model which eventually might mean that there is a little snow on the ground for a couple days and the air will feel brisk?    

 

I am definitely not that wrapped about snow... but I am just as irrational about other weather-related things!

Yesterday and today were the 14th and 15th time Chicago had gone below -20 since records began in 1870. Rockford, Illinois set their all-time record low of -30 this morning, breaking the previous mark by 3 degrees. Records there date to 1905.
