12Z ECMWF actually shows that Tuesday will be sunny from Olympia northward... the 12Z run had clouds and linger snow showers.  

 

The clear skies might make for some impressive lows.

There is no doubt about this... its been so consistent that you almost don't even need to check.

Solid backdoor cold shot, cold pool, east winds. Nice. I really have to wonder if we might be going into a far more prolonged cold pattern than we previously thought, and again as mentioned if the GFS/WRF-GFS are correct PDX after Monday night will not be moderating with arctic air pouring out of the Gorge.

This coming week is going to be very exciting tracking the cold and snow possibilities.

Just started to snow here in Quesnel. Looks like arctic air starts to pour in here during the day on Friday. GFS shows -32F for a low Sunday morning. Not sure if we are leaving Saturday or Sunday at this point.

Highs 36-43 at SLE for 7 days. Pretty good for February.

Way too early to say this, of course, but it's looking like 6+ days of sub-40 temps might be possible with this for a good number of places.

 

At OLM, Feb 2018 saw 6 straight sub-40 days. Feb 2014 also saw 6. Feb 2011, also 6.

 

That makes it seem pretty common, but it actually isn't. Before that, the last Februaries to see 6 consecutive sub 40 days at OLM was 1990 (7), and then 1989 (6). But before that, you have to go all the way back to 1949 to find a February that managed 6 sub-40 days in a row. 

 

So yeah, February cold spells have actually been pretty darn impressive recently. And that looks like it could continue coming up.
