February 2019 Weather in the Pacific Northwest - Part 1

Hello weather weenies,

New to the Pacific Northwest Forum from north of the border up here in BC

have been following the forum for a couple years now, riding the highs and lows of mother natures many weather surprises with all the rest of you.

looking forward to an extended period of cold and snow up here and lots for my USA neighbours to the south.

Monday-Tuesday the euro has nearly a foot in western PDX and maybe 2-3 inches on the east side? Seems a bit odd?

I just can't see all the other models backing down to the euro

Very different set up down here though. This is probably going to be a snow to rain to snow scenario for Portland, with cold air advection at the end. With a low moving down the coast rather than an undercut. Better setup overall but I wouldn't be surprised if amounts are similar.

 

The back and forth from offshore and onshore flow should be interesting with this I think. I'm hoping we can really limit the amount of it falling as rain. Will probably be a bit of a struggle on the west side of town here though.

Usually happens when there is a east wind.  "Forest Grove Effect".  I can do pretty well in those situations in Scappoose.

Looks like the euro didn't hate on Washington county this time. Pretty confident that the crazy snow disparity between west and east parts of town will not happen though.

Oh wow. I had to make sure I wasn't looking at one of the stellar runs from yesterday, but look at day 9. Holy Toledo!

Euro is the best with precip. Hands down. Unless we see some convective cells as the outflow kicks in, 4-6 seems like a good call.

 

Models are all over the place with next Monday. Victoria would be slammed if the euro verified. I think southern Vancouver Island is sitting in a good spot given the pattern modeled. Hard to complain right now.

What about straight effect snow?  I would expect that to manifest itself with the positioning of the low

And even if that it what the Euro is seeing for that map it wouldn’t make sense for Washington county to be getting slammed while outflow areas changed over.
