February Snowfalls 2/10-2/12, Part III & IV

Once it starts the transition down south it will push through north fast.

No...the east wind wall will stop it.  The ECMWF clearly shows it.

Most models show it transitioning quickly from OLM to around SEA. But much slower north of there.

And that's assuming they have a good handle.

Ya I am right on the line in north seattle and was hoping it would slow down south of me but I have a feeling it is going to push through north past my area.

Thank god for the passes and river valleys.  The cold is just pouring in now.

Why do people keep discounting the ECMWF?  It has proven to be superior in these cases time and time again.  Even it isn't quite cold enough for my area on this one.

Looks like it's 34 and snowing again in Chehalis. Definitely a stubborn transition

I really hope this WSW verifies for rate driven event in PDX tonight(and rest of Willamette valley later). Everybody would have something out of this epic blast, even if only for a few hours.

It won't. There's basically no chance for sticking snow in the metro until late Tuesday evening, and models are pretty anemic with reigniting the precip band this far north aside from the NAM. Our NWS is just feeling a little down about being so left out of the snow party.

32, E wind still here and heavy snowfall continues!

Becoming increasingly obvious something has changed.

that would be great!

can't imagine this being an event for anyone west and south of Portland unless you are at elevation.  lot of promise for the eastern side.  reminds me of Christmas Eve of 2017.

I'm in Enumclaw and Buckley today and it's now mostly rain both places.

Those places can be terrible in cases like this.

Sure would be nice to get one proper widespread event here, could very well be the last chance for this season. Think it will be mostly a hills only event though. NWS already busted this weekend so they decided to just go all in on this.

Any place that is getting decent precip rates north of Chehalis is getting accumulation. At least for now.

Yes, literally every model showed that early on, although some were definitely too quick to scour out the CLS to OLM corridor today. The issue is after 4pm or so, when the low makes its northern move. I would guess it's now just off Westport, given the sharp temp gradient around Grays Harbor.

Wow!  Places south of Olympia not only getting snow, but there is snow sticking to I-5.  A hat tip to the FV3.

Remember at Band Camp last week and we were all sitting around with our instruments, just kinda jammin and we were talking about how Oregon was gonna get all the snow and not much for Washington? Seems like a long time ago.

Somebody’s flute got stuck in the Euro which led to some of those wacky solutions.

Just about to go nuts here.  Just one degree colder would be awesome, but I'm not complaining.  Lester is currently 21 so there is plenty of cold air available to push in.
