TT-SEA
Right but of course you know the financial and logistical reasoning behind this right or is this just a general complaint detached from practical reality I know that a huge part of the country can take this stuff in stride... and not leave parents as daycare operators for weeks. Prairiedog
Really? 850s compared to 12z Day 8.5 to 11 are COLDER this run for PDX and with strong east winds the arctic air is always deeper than modeled, especially low level. You know better than this.I agree but now it seems we're going from an arctic air mass to a back door. Not complaining because cold is cold but I was hoping for an actual arctic front that spins up some moisture as it passes and cold air moving in behind it. Now I'm gonna get warmed nosed at some point. Can't win. LOL
Bueryan
I helped 4 stuck drivers last year on my way home from work when the snow hit. One was a new F-250 WSDOT truck being driven by a kid who had no idea what he was doing. He had no clue how to put it in 4 wheel drive. As soon as he got it in gear he had no problem. The second was in the same location at a traffic light. The girl had moved up from California and had bald tires on a c-class Mercedes and with a lead-foot, she kept spinning and drifting closer and closer to an embankment. Experienced driving matters in snow.

MossMan
I hear the Seattle school district is going to just shut down for the rest of the year and try it again next fall. If there is a flake of snow within 30 miles or there was a flake of snow within 30 miles within the last 2 months... then its best to close schools out of an abundance of caution. By time they can start up again it will be the middle of May so its not worth it. Long term cold spells around here are really annoying in that regard. Black ice kills!!! But so does living. Applying their logic elsewhere... they should only operate schools in Minnesota in September and May. But kids there trudge to school in a foot of new snow and winds howling at 50 mph. I would be more excited about this if people in the Seattle area could just go on with normal life when its cold and snowy.Terrain, limited resources with snow removal equipment, and liability. Lawsuits up the ying yang if a school bus slides off a cliff. Elevation 580’ Location a few miles east of I-5 on the Snohomish Co side of the Snohomish/Skagit border. I love snow/cold AND sun/warmth! Frontal Snowsquall
TThat looks like a back door event to me or at least has the potential for one.Yeah, even if we don't get a full on Arctic Blast, I want to develop enough of a cold pool where any systems coming from the SW or W would be snow if it tracks south of PDX.
