Part I - January 2020 Weather Discussion for the PNW

At this point I'm going to take wild guess and say the cold wave will last 15 to 20 days when it sets in with most places getting at least one or two decent snowfalls.  Historically speaking a cold snap of a couple of weeks isn't that hard to pull off in January.

 

Be interesting to see how much this torchy beginning to the month effects the final averages.

Kitsap missed this warmth. 47 and raining on Bainbridge Island.

In GH now but lived SW of PO for 50yrs and we rarely got that warmth.  The crazy warm winds from the eastside don't have much effect in Kitsap.  Tonight in GH we got weird 6 degree bump for less than an hour and now back down to 47.

We haven't gotten cold yet and we had our first prediction as to how long "it" will last.

Yeah....I would hate to see a great monthly average spoiled.  A few days is pretty easy to offset though.  Yesterday wasn't terrible here... 49 - 40.

57/38 here today. Average is 41/29 on this date.

00z GFS Day 3 past 4 runs. Sure do like that trend to flatten the offshore ridge more quickly allowing colder air to spill south faster into BC.

I honestly think the cold spell lasts into February. The EPS has me feeling just like last February.
