SEA could pull off a freeze tonight.  Surface gradients will be almost dead tonight.  A stubborn breeze is the only thing that kept them above last night.

I’m hoping that SEA can pull off at least one freeze out of this. It would be nice.

That video reminds me of the snowstorm at the end of last November. Not sure if you got snow from that but the trees did not like 6” of heavy wet snow sitting on them. Branches were down all over town in the roads the next morning.

IMG_0731.jpeg

Got about 5" IMBY during that time frame and yes it was quite destructive of deciduous trees that had not yet shed their foliage.

Mr. Mass is usually high on defending/explaining/discussing model failures, however, no mention from him on the huge model failure of a Cat 5 hurricane spawning like an end boss out of a video game and not one world weather model picked up on it, seems odd......

We still have snow on the ground here too. Only dropped to 28F though.
the cottonwoods were still basically fully leafed out when the snow hit on Tuesday. Some of them took a real beating.  If you play the video with sound on you can hear the trees breaking.

I wish some snow or wind would take out the cottonwoods that block my view of downtown. They are like the weeds of trees and are too dangerous to be in an urban area.

At least they are quite safe when they're bare.

I'm surprised there was still foliage on your trees up there in late November last year.  We had 21 freezing mins that month.  It had been very mild up until then though.

Why would you want a view of a concrete jungle? 🤮

You don’t like seeing a skyline? On mornings with a thin fog layer I can see the buildings poking up above the fog.

I would rather have a west view of the Sound and Olympic Mountains but I can’t afford a $2 million house…

I guess it’s not my thing. Give me trees and nature sounds over cars and concrete any day.

Depends on the situation.  The city of Vancouver looks beautiful from the north shore mountains

That’s the one exception I’d make. Stayed at a hotel in Vancouver on the way to Haida Gwaii and I remember how amazing the city looked up against the mountains in the distance.

But that’s because the natural terrain dominates the picture. Both NYC and downtown Seattle are eyesores to me (though Mt. Rainier in the background does redeem the latter).

Baltimore might be the ugliest city in the lower-48. Prove me wrong.

The view from across the inner harbor isn’t bad. It’s no worse than half of the landlocked cities in the middle of the country.

I have a wooded backyard so I have my own little piece of nature in the city. I’m sure I would have a good time with a big chunk of land like many of you have but I love my little yard with the conveniences of the city close by.

The trees got a late start in 2022 and they stayed leafed-out surprisingly late. I was surprised how much they held on to their foliage despite the cold, too.

Breezy all of last night kept temperatures above freezing through the morning here. Wind is completely dead now so we'll see if I can pick up a freeze before midnight. Current temperature is 33.7F after a high of 49F.

It actually appears tonight could end up a little bit colder than last night in some places.  We are running a degree or two colder than this time last night.  Dew points were a bit lower going into tonight than last night.

86°F here today. Just dumb.

1°F short of daily record (1919).

Eeewww!

Pretty interesting to note that 1919 also had an October cold snap here and then went on to have a wicked December cold wave in the NW.  December has some real potential I think.

the earth was also about 1 degree celsius cooler on average then than now, so there's that.

but I agree, december does look to have some potential

That was the coldest October on record at SLE by a decent margin. Record low today at Salem is actually from 1919 (20).

31.8F here and tonight is getting started early. Might be the coldest of the bunch, as suggested by the RGEM.

The 00Z Euro is very interesting. It shows back to back storms. The second one is a little stronger than the first. I want to show the wind gusts but that map isn't finished yet so I can't show it and I'm really tired. It's way past my bedtime. I'll look at it when I wake up. If someone wants to post it, go ahead 🤗
