I’m not sure if it’s hereditary but my mom also has it so it helps having seen how a family member can get through it.

As for 1990 being the cold season proxy to June 2021. From an observed weather standpoint it just doesn’t stack up. The peak of the February 1989 was pretty similar to the December 1990 blast. I guess the -24 at McMinnville in December 1919 would be the cold season equivalent of a 117 degree high at SLE. Remember that one also produced a high of 9 at Eugene…

Thank you! And that sounds like such a cool experience! I've only ever been there in the summer as a kid and it was magical. My dream since then has been to see it in the winter and while I won't get to be there in sub zero, as long as there's snow on the ground, it should be as amazing as last time :)

Do you have any recommendations for places to go or see besides Louise?

I highly recommend doing the Johnston Canton trail, if a 3 mile (round-trip) hike is doable for you. You'll get to see 7 different frozen waterfalls throughout the trail, and it is a boardwalk with rails the whole way, so very accessible. This time of year the boardwalk will probably be pretty slick, so you'll probably want some way to have traction, like yak traks or ice cleats, or some good boots, otherwise you might be slipping a lot.

If you aren't going to ski in Banff on this trip, I highly recommend doing the Sulphur Mountain Gondola, that way you can still get high up and see the amazing views of Banff. I would guess it's 50 something dollars per person now, but I'm unsure. If that's in your price range, and you're in the area on a sunny day, I highly recommend it.

Hope these are helpful, and I hope you have a great trip!

Beautiful sunny and frosty morning here.  Looks like it stays dry until Saturday evening and then back to dry for most of next week again.

I saw the sun for about 10 minutes yesterday, then it went away again. We have had a couple of frosts in the past week, but just from clear skies at night, been mostly cloudy during the day. Lots of mist and light rain, typical November fare. But I hear you are not having a typical Nino fall up in those parts.

No idea what typical Nino fall is supposed to be like... but it has not snowed yet.     Facebook reminded me that we had a decent snow event 8 years ago yesterday which was also a Nino fall in 2015.

The satellite shows most of western WA in the sunshine this morning while most of western OR is socked in again.

That fall was a bit more active. 2018 was a pretty forgettable fall, I don't remember much of anything about it, so I'm guessing no big cold snaps. This has probably been a bit warmer than many Nino falls, maybe that's what Jim meant?
