Surprised to see snow advisory for Olympia.  Just by looking at radar and sat high chance light snow gets as far north as SeaTac or so.

Radar returns atleast. We will see like I was saying just a couple hundredths of an inch of precip can be missed easily by the models. It would go unnoticed in a rainfall scenario but during a snow event it can be huge.

If it's currently sleet in the mid valley and stays that way for another hour, it seems unlikely it will convert to zr. I'm probably just wishcasting...

Salem may stay sleet most of the event. Several models show this. Further east I’ll almost certainly have a period of ZR today.

Classic sleet signature there. Moderate sleet falling currently and 20.

Just went outside, looks like about 50% snow and sleet mix.

Power just started flickering too 😬

Interestingly my son is going skiing at Crystal today and we were telling him its going to be way too cold and windy... but its actually warmer at the top of Crystal than the base.   And it appears there isn't much wind up there because the trees are all flocked in snow.   Its +10 at the top of Crystal at 7,000 feet.    I think there is a benefit to the warm nose there today.

I accepted it yesterday…But I’m back to being pissed off today that we missed a massive opportunity for an epic January…By 50-150 miles. What a waste of an amazing airmass! If that polar lobe would have rotated offshore just even 50 miles on Thursday we would have gotten clobbered, now if this current system would have just moved another 150 miles north we would have gotten clobbered again! Ahhhh! Instead of frolicking in snow that would have been falling with temps in the teens I get to look out at a brown dehydrated looking landscape! And to top it off I will be in the garage with my Mr buddy heater changing the headlight bulbs in my wife’s Subaru Outback…Can’t wait for frozen contorted skinned up hands and taking half the car apart to get to them!!! Great design Subaru!

(Snowmizer is probably laughing at this lol)

And putting an NFL playoff game on a paywall streaming service is making my blood boil!!!

Im in a bad mood today!!! 😀

Probably going to be massive power outages today. At least for places where lines aren't underground.

Not gonna effect us down here in the south valley. No way. Not a chance. I'm definitely not running the dishwasher or washing clothes.

Changing headlights is so annoying.   Why in the hell can't they make it easy since its obviously something that has to be done as part of routine maintenance.    Its like they make it extra challenging on purpose.

So you shelled out the $5.99 for the trail version of Peacock?  😀

Gfs says it all switches to snow by the next frame for a good chunk of the metro

ICON, RGEM and HRRR were all a solid improvement for the metro area as well, less sleet for PDX

The new ones are better than the old sealed-beam ones that had to be aligned each time they were replaced, but they are still gratuitously difficult to change. Plus the stupid plastic lenses only last about 10 years then crack or fog and need replacing. (Now get off my lawn!)

It's called clown range for a reason.

Dropped down to at least -40F here and then that was all my Davis weather station had to give! I'd guess I dropped to -42 or -43.

Looks like BZN has dropped to at least -45F. All-time record is -46 there so very possible we tied it. Shatters the daily record by 13 degrees. Amazing airmass!

Currently -36F.

My cabin is -28, my friend up there a few miles from me is -36 as well. Just a bit colder than 2021.

I’m embracing the sleet. All around pretty rocking and impactful event. Going to be some horrific ZR totals too.

Hopefully it switches to all snow soon

Honestly with the way the wind is blowing up here it’s a bit academic. We’re gonna have massive drifts and bare ground no matter what falls from the sky, and the snow is so dry it won’t compact into anything. A good day to stay inside!
