To kick off our late August/September furnace right?

Second half of August looks pretty nasty in the West. But the first half will probably have the blowtorch east of the Rockies.

Yea, what a curse it would be to get some rain. How horrible.

That was tongue-in-cheek.     Some rain would be nice... but the ECMWF way over-estimated rain with the last trough so I am not too hopeful.

What I wouldn't give to finally have a summer that was rain free, mid to upper eighties, low humidity with a pleasant breeze from the east to keep the humidity down. My family likes to have summer time campfires after a long day of boating in cascades, so those wonderful dry nights are the best.

I actually prefer some humidity in the summer!    Those warm, humid summer evenings are the best.   👍

Not only did this fire start on the intersection of Dixie and Camp Creek Roads (the namesake for a certain other extremely significant fire) but preliminary reports suggest the cause might also be the same.

The entire summer so far has been pretty nasty in the west (aside from the deep SW which has enjoyed a more active monsoon season). So I guess nothing will change in late August.

That said, if the EPS is correct with this p1-p4 progression of the tropical circulation, it might be the Plains/Midwest region that really blowtorches hard, instead of the West.

Either way, this screams lower-48 blast furnace. 😣

82 here…we will see if we bump any higher in the next half hour.

It’s so weird that on days like these I consistently run warmer than SEA being only a few miles away.

At home it’s currently  85F.

Everything about SEA has been strange lately.    The updated averages wiped out the UHI effect on departures and that makes sense... but lately it always seems to be cooler than expected as well.   TacomaWaWx used to always run colder than SEA.   Now it seems his location is about the same as SEA.

The radiational cooling at OLM is a very unique thing... its real and based on geography and soil composition but it's not representative of the region.

It has. Not nearly as impressive as 2018, 2015, etc for the western PNW lowlands, though. 😉

Kinda interesting, looking like it could be one of the smallest differences in average temperature between June and July in quite awhile (for many places). At this point, would have to go back to the 1980s to find something comparable.

You do understand June 2018 was like 5F cooler than this past June. Also south of Portland July 2021 has been remarkably similar, if we get a heat pulse toward the end of the month it will end a dead ringer for July 2018.

Looks like the NWS is going with a high of 80 at SLE on Wednesday. That is the one chance for a sub-80 high this week. Back up near 90 Saturday-Monday.
