Indeed. They have actually found events so extreme that they are captured in tree ring data. Those would probably fry everything and put us back to the stone age.
Another thing to remember is past history tells us it's highly unlikely the sunspot will be as strong when it reemerges. The extreme solar storms are usually a one and done until many years later.
It will happen eventually. A Carrington event barely scratches the surface of what the sun is capable of.
