Where do you get the FV3 ensembles?

He's just mad I pointed out the fact the GFS ensembles weren't very good.

Burns pulled off a 25/-6 yesterday a day after a 26/-2. They can still do winter on the east side...

OK, got it. I would think they exist somewhere though, I thought they were at that German sight. Should be available everywhere once it becomes the new model in mid January.

Oh wow. I didn’t realize the replacement was coming so soon. Good info!

What was your winter outlook?

In short mild and drier than normal conditions. And then I talked about how that doesn't mean it won't snow and people need to be prepared to be able to get to work even if it snows because we operate 24 hour facilities so on and so forth...

It's laughable to me when people call in because of snow/ice given I average about 40" of snow a year and have never missed work due to it.

I wrote one for my school newspaper and said much the same.  I'm going for a cold period late in December through early January then a blowtorch February (classic nino).  Overall slightly below normal temperatures for DJF and slightly below normal precip.

The GFS is back to the splitty look.

Nevertheless, the PNW still gets wet during the entire 384 hours.

I know what you mean about people calling in.  When I used to live in Bellingham, events would be cancelled if there was even a small chance of snow or even rain mixed with snow.  Here, I have never seen school cancelled, or anything else, UNLESS it is freezing rain, which of course does shut down everything.

Some people just do not prepare like they should. They don’t even think about the weather and when it suddenly snows and they have bald tires, and no emergency kit in their car, portable shovel, kitty litter for traction, etc they end up in a world of hurt or just stay home and use their bald tires as an excuse. Shouldn’t be any excuse, just be ready for conditions.

I guess the December 2016 snow storm was a nightmare for our company. I left for Oklahoma on the day Salem got 5", but I guess the following couple days it didn't melt and got really icy and there were an extreme amount of call outs.

I was on-call during the January 7, 2017 snow event, and I just got people Uber's if they said they couldn't make it in. A lot of people seemed pretty bummed that I was able to come up with a solution. Except for one guy, he refused the free transport saying he felt it was "to dangerous for anyone to be out driving in the snow." I asked him how he thought we were supposed to support people in 24 hour facilities then, or how hospitals and other essential facilities were supposed to run during such times and he said it "wasn't his problem." Employee of the month stuff there.

**** those idiots. They cause more problems on the road than anyone else.

We come from the land of the ice and snow.

Same here.   My wife works in Bellevue and she has only missed work one time due to weather and that was during the ice storm in 2012.

People in Bellevue don't want to hear about our snow problems when its raining and 40 degrees there.     ;)

Luckily... King County does an amazing job keeping our roads plowed and treated up here.    We can have a foot of new snow and the main road down to I-90 will be completely plowed out by 5:30 a.m.

But if there is half an inch of snow in Bellevue then its complete chaos at her office and half the people don't even make it work!

I drove over alder trees, under dangling powerlines and unplowed roads with a foot of snow on them to get to work in November 2006. My 1999 Tahoe at the time was a beast! But I needed to be there, worked at a large senior community at the time and needed to help with moving the residents in the independent living to the nursing and assisted living buildings that had full generator power. Also with snow removal. I spent a lot of time in this machine during the winter of 06/07 and was in it every single day from December 13th through the 25th in 2008. The only time I didn’t have to work (even though I wanted to) was when I worked at the golf course between 1998 and 2005. Though not much (big) happened during those years so I didn’t miss much work.

Nerd!

What's great about our company newsletter is usually about 75% of it are excerpts of emails or other internal communications I've sent out.

"Andrew's Legislative Update"

"Andrew on Holiday Bonuses"

"Words from Andrew on the Budgeting Process"

It's kind of embarrassing, but I figure no one actually reads it.
