I’m curious, are the local ski hills still making snow?

Not sure if they are making snow or not and not sure as to "local" but many of the ski resorts are open this weekend in Michigan

I'm at alpine valley now, they're definitely done blowing snow. It's a little thin in some areas but they're going to try and make it to next weekend. They need 24 hours of blowing to accumulate enough to be worth it. I think all the places near Chicago are going to be done st Patrick's day weekend. The Sun is just too much this time of year. If you want to get out you better do it soon. The snow it actually pretty great for mid March.

Well, that was quick, there goes the St. Patty's day warmth...12z GFS wants to bring a wintry system into the central Plains next Sunday...LOL...man, I'm really considering leaving for AZ next week and not come back till later in April.  #Decisions

Even Friday, which had been looking like a lock for warmth across the region, is now not so locked in.  Recent GFS runs and today's 12z Euro have suddenly added a system tracking along/south of us, cutting off the warm south flow and turning it easterly.

As daylight begins to emerge, this guy did not adjust to the Daylight Savings as my internal clock is locked.  Meantime, a fascinating powerhouse storm is now looking likely across New England. I always find it interesting which model scores a coupe and watch each model run.  It's a beauty to see these massive mid latitude cyclones bomb out along the EC as nature does it's thing.

Not much to write about for much of our area. With the time change it is now back to mid winter like darkness in the AM (it will stay light later in the evening) here at my house there is clear skies and a some what cold 18° The average H/L for today is 42/25 so we are starting off a the colder than average side.

We're certainly into the in-between transition season, now.  We just need it to warm up a bit and hopefully get a bit more thunder in a week or two as pacific systems attempt to parade across the region.

There's not much to watch around this week, but I do like following the big nor'easters.

Ran up to Mid-Mich yesterday, and when I hit Ionia they really had a lot of snow otg! Looked to my eye like they had 5-7" from that Wednesday system with winds and drifts. Everywhere north of there was basically winter with snow covered ground.

B-town looks like they are in for a nice snowstorm. NYC might escape the brunt of it as phasing looks like wont happen in time for them. Couple of inches could still fall in the big apple.

Continues to be bone dry here. NWS Hastings mentioning more fire weather concerns/ red flag warnings later this week. Not good at all. Need a big pattern change.

Plenty of moisture to come after next Friday.

I'm looking forward to a tranquil week of weather around here, albeit on the chilly side over the next few days, the sunshine will make up for it.  Look at the bright side, you won't have to wash your car every few days from the salt!  It's kinda nice to have it clean for more than just a couple days.

An active pattern sets up later this weekend into the following week and chances of wintry precip are back in the picture...maybe some beneficial rains across the central Plains??  I am looking for a better chance of a soaker across the central Plains around the Spring Solstice period.

Just took a snow fall measurement and here at my house I have 0.75” of snow fall. For March Grand Rapids is just below average temperature wise at -0.5° and the seasonal snow fall is (before todays snow) was 71.0” Right now it is 32 with light snow falling

Couldn't agree more with the bolded..

This would be a welcomed soaker if trends hold per the 00z Euro across NE...

Looks great, but we have been burned so many times before by the models and forecasts, that I need to see actual precipitation falling from the sky.  The dry trends from southwest of us, as this map is showing, tend to move northeast and rear their ugly head here with dryness.  As always, I hope I am wrong and a nice soaker is coming.  We'll see.

Bostons forecast........ Too bad its March because all of this snow will be gone in a few days. That is why I have no use for snowstorms by mid March. ;)

Tonight

A chance of rain showers before 10pm, then snow. The snow could be heavy at times. Low around 30. Northeast wind 11 to 16 mph, with gusts as high as 32 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New snow accumulation of 3 to 5 inches possible.

Tuesday

Snow. The snow could be heavy at times. High near 34. Breezy, with a northeast wind 20 to 23 mph, with gusts as high as 45 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New snow accumulation of 10 to 14 inches possible.

Tuesday Night

Snow likely before midnight, then a slight chance of snow showers between midnight and 1am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 29. West wind 11 to 14 mph, with gusts as high as 28 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 2 inches possible.

The 3-4 inches of snow that fell on part of se IA/n MO yesterday morning is gone.  In mid March, snow melts even with temps in the 20s.  If the temp is in the 40s, it's insta-melt.
