Really, really lovely cumulonimbus action tonight! I just happened to have my drone in the car and got some solid shots of DT Seattle/Lake Washington/Mercer Island/Bellevue looking north from Skyway. Alas, the focal length of the lens doesn't do the vertical height justice and my WB was off rendering it into semi-gross HDR territory, but still... fun looking weather! It was quite windy- I was flying right at 390 ft and the drone was giving me all sorts of warnings about sustained winds/gusts.
A most incredible snow storm. At times the snowfall rates have been as heavy or slightly heavier than January 2017. Temp 27.5, Dewpoint: 27.1 with gusty east wind and very heavy snow continuing. I'm at 11 1/2" now! UNBELIEVABLE!!!! This pic does no justice at all.
NBM is quite an interesting product! Their weighting algorithm is moderately complex and dynamic, though does has some drawbacks as we saw yesterday. For those who don't know, NBM is an attempt by NOAA to create a super probabilistic forecast model that ingests output from all the models above and outputs forecast guidance for local offices that help them to gauge the relative odds of particular weather outcomes. The 'special sauce' is the post-processing, normalization and weighting that they d
Wet day. Cool and lush out there with light to moderate rain much of the daylight hours. Have picked up .70” for the day so far, storm total approaching 1.2” since late yesterday afternoon.
Also on the chilly side. Midnight high of 52 but an afternoon high of just 50 so far. Currently 49 with rain.
Been waiting for it to start snowing at paradise so we can start going up but it's still raining, but it seems like it'll change to snow very soon, and it'll be quite the dump of snow tonight up on the Mountain, we will not be happy campers. But that's just the conditions we wanted so there are no complaints!
35 at home which is very cold for a may afternoon, .65" rain today. According to the wife, some flakes are starting to mix in with the rain, I'll bet on a few inches of snow tonight.
Nice people at UW
I have passed the encampment several times and have never seen even a single member of the UW Police force in the area.
This encampment interfered with instruction in the many classrooms facing the quad due to the blaring noise from their bullhorns and loud music. Some of the student bouncers were physically blocking individuals taking pictures.
The Hamas activists called for the destruction of the State of Israel (from the river to sea, Palestine will be free chants) and global violence (Global Intifada). But they had particular hate for President Biden and the Democratic Party, with frequent screams of "Biden, Biden You Can't Hide, You are Guilty of Genocide".
The Democratic party was considered far right for many folks in this group. Some wore Communist Party shirts while others held signs for the Revolutionary Workers Party (see below).
Some of the signs called for violence against police, which I suspect is illegal (see below).
But it was the stunning ignorance and lack of historical knowledge that really was shocking.
I calmly asked one the the folks in the yellow jackets why he was against Israel. He told me that the Jews were colonialists. I calmly told him that he was incorrect. That the Jews were in the land for at least 3000 years and that the Arabs were the recent conquerors. He told me that I was wrong, that there were no Jews in the region until the 1900s. I noted that Jews were noted in both versions of the bible. He countered that the bible was mythology. I noted that Roman literature talked about Israel and there was definitive archeological proof. He then walked away.
