PNW February 2023 Weather Discussion - Meteorological winter finale

It’s not what you’re thinking of, but sludge from sewage treatment plants is commonly sold as fertilizer. Milwaukee, WI was a pioneer at doing this. Ever hear of a brand of fertilizer called Milorganite? It stands for MILwaukee ORGanic NITrogEn.

Egads, this conversation has gone down the toilet.

That is incredible stuff! I was thinking about aerobic composting in piles (a la Joseph Jenkin's "The Humanure Handbook"), but it's all based on the same fact that human feces contains valuable fertilizers. When done correctly, poop composting can safely sequester CO2, and generate a nice ROI.

Yep, the Lorquins Admiral butterfly, common in the PNW eats animal feces.  What's the world coming to?  First the war on cows and now to think butterflies are responsible for climate change with CO2 production.  A world without butterflies, can't take it.  Next it will be my frogs.

Don't give them any ideas! lol PDX-DLS -4.3mb

seems like these super extreme events favor Maine

I feel sorry for whoever it was that almost moved to Maine but cancelled at the last minute. Three historic blizzards and top-5 arctic airmass anywhere in the CONUS since. :(

Forget who it was.

Road trip?

Lol, no way I’m heading up there in my convertible Camaro. 😂

Plus last time I chased in New England the hotel ended up losing power and getting its windows blown out by storm surge. Slept in my car and lived off protein bars and Gatorade for the next 36hrs. And had to change a flat in subzero windchills. Me no want repeat.

Now that’s a tropopause fold. 😵

Should go up there and take a first hand look at the massive amount water vapor in the stratosphere right now!

If that's the case.... Heck of a sacrifice of ones own breath, and it might scare away friends and loved ones, BUT if it leads to Cold and SNOW!!!! could it really be that bad? They do make doublemint gum and altoids for a reason!

We need to start mission global cooling with aerosols or something ASAP. We've survived an ice age before.

54 in North Bend today... currently 43 but temps should stay steady overnight with the east wind picking up.  Definitely looking forward to some rain tomorrow.

I am.

Don't like this endless dry weather.    Going to pay for it when I don't want to be paying for it.  Plus rain gets us back on track for greening up.

Elevation 580’ Location a few miles east of I-5 on the Snohomish Co side of the Snohomish/Skagit border. I love snow/cold AND sun/warmth!

Coldest I’ve ever experienced was here in Redmond in the winter of ‘13-‘14 when it hit -27 in December. From what I recall it also hit that in February of ‘14 as well. At least it did imby. Hurts to breathe in at that temp.
