August 2018 Weather in the Pacific Northwest

Sadly SLE bumped up to 70 at 6pm... Still a very solid negative departure on the daily high temp there.

65 for a high here. Already down to 57.

Some friends of ours in Kona just have a report that Lane was a huge bust. They got a lot of rain, but none of the wind or surf promised. It may have put the volcano out though.

I doubt some rain put out a volcano.

I was checking out the Waikoloa cams today and it looked very benign.   A little windy and cloudy but lots of people walking around the resort as usual... it was not even raining.

She said if you showed up today you wouldn’t know there was a hurricane there yesterday!

Kona is on the windward side of the island, though. I imagine Hilo had it a lot worse.

That thingamabob is better looking than half of the crap they’ve named this year in the Atlantic.

Yeah, but it's all very close to sliding east.

At one point not long ago, the next 3-4 days were looking like deep troughing. Now it looks much weaker. Though still a welcome respite from Smokelandia.

His trolling is so weak... he should just give it up.

Yep, this was never going to be a GOA vortex of doom throwing cyclones into BC every other day. Just an offshore ridge and cool N/NW flow aloft, like back in June and early July.

No worries. Once summer is over and you’re socked in the cloud deck, I’ll have no material left to troll.

The HRRR shows some surface smoke this evening up north...

Bad news is that it shows even more tomorrow afternoon...

And even more bad news... its shows it getting really thick aloft tomorrow.

Weak.

You are so desperate for me to be miserable... seems like a waste of energy.      I likely won't be really annoyed until March or April so you might have to wait awhile.   Sorry buddy.

Just a southern event?

Nope... lots of rain for you on Sunday morning per the WRF.

Then probably lots of smoke in the northerly flow behind the system.

Good news with the rain...not good in terms of the smoke.

Some models still have Lane ripping through Maui  :(

Edit: Looks like the latest updates have it most likely staying enough offshore to really only be a rain concern.

The air is once again disgusting. Yay.

Yeah I noticed a little smoke smell about 9 pm. Just can't seem to get rid of this stuff.

Total precip per the 00Z ECMWF through Monday evening...  although Monday looks like a nice day and it shows Tuesday being just shy of 90 at PDX.

The mid-week system is almost totally dry on the 00Z ECMWF... that one was really wet on the 00Z run last night and still wet on the 12Z run today.

Wondering where this smoke is actually coming from now. Winds are light south through the Sound and West through the Strait.

That is incredible.

I can understand some elevated smoke but the fact that its at the surface under a trough is perplexing.
