Part II- January 2020 Obs and Discussion

Have 3-4" from yesterday and last night in Glenhaven, while where I work in Bellingham is pretty much bare

That was frustrating to watch in progress on the radar. A big cell was heading my way, steadily making progress. The edge of it reached me and it stopped, sat in one spot for an hour, then disintegrated. Decided to enjoy the proceeds of it even though they weren't at my house by taking a mountain bike ride / hike at Lookout Mountain this afternoon. Was quite lovely.

Outflow winds still blustering here in north Bellingham. 17 degrees and falling, forecast low tonight is 13. It’s a nice taste of winter without winter having to last for months and months.

It's called clown range for a reason.

Well I'll be dipped.  I'm in one of the better area on the 18z Euro snowfall map for tonight.  Shows a good 3 inches here!

Currently snowing and I've had 1.2" for the day so far.  Looks like the Arctic front is moving south.  Sub freezing temps have reached north King County.  Everett is currently quite a bit colder than the ECMWF had indicated for this time with 27 degrees.

It's probably just my eyes, or a little bit of hope, but the latest loop of the radar looks to have a slight rotation to me centered right over the Sound and moving E. Showers near Tacoma move due E and then as they approach the mountains they start moving more N.

This radar below kind of shows it with the 3 hour loop. I'm probably just seeing things.

Radar trend is solid.

SEA is now 32 with a dp of 28.  The north wind is doing its work.

I think it's between Kent and Federal Way based on surface wind vectors, but it's clearly no longer a sharp air boundary as it was yesterday.

. I was looking at several maps and they show further back. The surface analysis map from NOAA shows it just north of Olympia but other maps are showing around Tacoma.

How do you measure that?

A really simple answer is just look at the infrared sat pic.  The colder clouds show up brighter.  Right now I expect the relatively warm moisture streaming in from the south is interacting with the colder air here.  We may see some surface interaction of dry cold air meeting the moisture also.

Precip will probably develop over us like a convergence zone.

I see Tim got banned. That's mind numbingly stupid.

Suspended, he'll be back in glorious new form. Or just the same old.

looks like light echoes are going on all over the sound on radar. They're not virga because the light blips are producing some snowflakes here.

40F with some light rain. Been basically right at 40F all day.

Any chance more low level cold can work into the gorge before the mid-week system goes north?
