Santiam State Forest. We went there early last May via Fern Ridge Road in Mehama. Nice spot.

I've pulled my raft out at Fisherman's Bend campground a few times. Nice area. I've always wanted to pay a visit to the 3 pools park, but I've heard it's a bit of a zoo there.

Oh yes. It is an amazing swimming hole, and beyond what you expect in terms of natural beauty. Very crowded in the summer though. I have gone in the off season though and it is not bad. The Little NF Santiam is where everyone in Salem goes to cool off in the summer.

My guess would be about 2% of people in Salem have ever heard of it.

Pretty amazing how the heat threat has evaporated in recent runs...although wouldn’t surprise me too much to see trend the other way in the coming days.

Still looks like some very nice early summer weather on tap. Highs mostly in the 70s the next seven days, with some 80s thrown in too.

Years like 1970, 1988, and 1998 definitely had some hawtness. Just depends on the Nina.

Yeah, even more recent Niña-tainted warm seasons like 2007 and 2008 had some decent, fairly dynamic heatwaves. Although it’s usually the fun kind, not the stale spells that drag on for 10-12 days.

but that model has been crap lately

Nope. Week after week, it's still the best we have.

For the middle of summer yes but average high at PDX for this time of year is 74. It will be warmer than that through the next week

July 2007 was extremely hot east of the Cascades. Not sure the intermountain region has seen a hotter month since.

With a developing Nina... its safe to assume very little heat and if it comes it will be fleeting.

So no July 2009 redux??? Bummer.

Elevation 580’ Location a few miles east of I-5 on the Snohomish Co side of the Snohomish/Skagit border. I love snow/cold AND sun/warmth!

A little warmer than average doesn’t mean hot. And a few of those days are definitely overdone given recent model trends.

Indeed.

OLM scored 4 out of 5 decidedly cool Junes from 2008-2012. This June will not be as cool as any of them.

The PDO is a low frequency echo of what’s actually forcing these pattern(s).

This year, yes. But there are other reasons for that in addition to the niña, in my opinion.

All time record hot summer in Montana if I recall.

July 2007 was absolutely insane out here. Average high in Bozeman was 92.4F. Normal average high is 81.5F for the month of July. Blows away any other month by a long shot.

Developing Nina's do tend to favor a hot Intermountain West but that has yet to develop thankfully. Looks like we'll go through June without hitting 90 this year so far in Bozeman and just 83 degrees is my high mark thus far.

Buy your ski/snowboard passes!! If there's a bunch of goodies over in Sunriver or that area, I'm going to try and get over there to experience some snow.  I think most of the action will be to the north of us down here but I still have a feeling we will see an Arctic event and a sub-freezing high at some point, even if it's a dry blast.

Springfield, Oregon regular season 2023-24 Stats:
