June 2020 Weather Discussion for the PNW

July 2007 was absolutely insane out here. Average high in Bozeman was 92.4F. Normal average high is 81.5F for the month of July. Blows away any other month by a long shot.

 

Developing Nina's do tend to favor a hot Intermountain West but that has yet to develop thankfully. Looks like we'll go through June without hitting 90 this year so far in Bozeman and just 83 degrees is my high mark thus far.

 

Yeah, parts of 2016, 2007, and 2005 were all brutal here. Mainly July.

Buy your ski/snowboard passes!! If there's a bunch of goodies over in Sunriver or that area, I'm going to try and get over there to experience some snow.  I think most of the action will be to the north of us down here but I still have a feeling we will see an Arctic event and a sub-freezing high at some point, even if it's a dry blast.

 

Definitely looking like a dry blast at this time. Also looking like some places might get a white Christmas again this year. Not sure about Eugene. Seems like it's been a long time down there.

Sunriver can get absolutely destroyed. I've been there when the depth was at least 4'. I've been there at least 10 times during the winter there and there was always a decent amount. That was also the location of the lowest temp I've ever experienced (-17). I wouldn't be surprised if their all time greatest depth was over 8 or 9 feet, but I doubt there's anyway to look that up.

I was actually watching an episode of Bizzare Foods once with Andrew Zimmern and he brought some meat to cook with him when he got into a Finnish sauna. He said it had a nice smoked taste afterwards!

42F rain is nicer IMO. Just 10 degrees above freezing, which is about as good as we can do for a cold high temp anymore down this way, esp in Dec-Jan.

Little Luckiamute goes through Falls City and has a great pool below the falls to do some cliff jumping.

 

There used to be an apparatice above the pool that was used to hoist a litter if it was needed to rescue and injured jumper.

Falls City is a nice place to stop by but not to live. I felt kinda bad for their HS football team when they would play Perrydale. They would get beat like 77-0 or so regularly. Their kids threw some low blows and sucker "helmet pushes" once they started getting blown out so that was unfortunate.

Their parents' indifference to it and encouragement was also an issue.

 

Also many stories of kids who moved away from the town and preferred living in Sheridan...yeah.

 

Maybe the town is better now. You know what would save it? Building SR 24 from Jefferson thru Independence then Falls City, then over the pass and next to the Siletz river (this would be tough but doable), creating an alternate route for people who don't like driving on OR SR 18.

 

Should also somehow rebuild Valsetz and make their basketball teams good like they were before the city was removed.

My brother played against Falls City in high school basketball. His team was always a bottom dweller and when they beat Falls City things got pretty chippy from the Falls City side and one of their dads got kicked out of the stands for screaming at his son to “kick some a**.”
