Biggest concern over the next few days will be new fires on a local level, we have had a couple out this way relatively close in the last week or so, but were contained in a reasonable amount of time.

Yeah it’s quite concerning. Until a few years ago I was never concerned about fires west of the Cascades but that is now a big concern, even with my own backyard. There was someone at the Skagit fair that had a booth about wildfire prevention. I sure as hell hope it’s NOT coming.

Haven't posted yet, even though I've had an account for a few months, but I feel like now is a good time. I have a Bachelor's in Climate Science from OSU with a focus on meteorology, and while in school, I have somewhat maintained a YouTube channel with Willamette Valley "severe weather" videos, when appropriate (schedule was too crazy to warrant a consistent schedule). The upcoming heatwave has hit my criteria that causes me to make a video, so I'd thought I'd share it. I take comments, questions, complaints, (niceish) hate mail.

I will not post technical info tonight, but typically, I have as a weather forum/FB group exclusive technical info for my forecast rationale. I also am aware I need a better YouTube profile image and am intending to change it probably in October (assuming I can get around to it). When that gets updated, I'll change this as well (I just copied it over as a placeholder). I also may do a graphics overhaul (granted its all PowerPoint so my options are limited) around the same time. I also have done long range winter forecasts, presenting at the winter weather conference at OMSI the last 3 years, and 3 more before for private uses (aka early education learning).

Welcome!!!!!

Glad I'm not the only one with the error message and unable to react. I'm sure @iFred or @Meatyorologist know about it. But it's more fun to react. Currently 86F here.

It would take a strong east wind to spread any fire on the west side.   Just need decent rain before the first east wind event in September or October.

We experienced it last September.   There was a couple days of explosive fire growth on the west side with an east wind.   Then those fires smoldered in place for another month putting out tons of smoke.

Cousin is visiting from Europe for a couple weeks after spending some time in Chicago as well.

One of his biggest observations about our climate is apparently how little wind there is.

I had noticed that too. Especially at night.

Would be highly unusual for PDX to peak 16 degrees warmer than SEA in a heatwave.

We notice the same thing every year during our trip to MN.  Seems like it's usually more windy everywhere else than it is at home.

Oh how quickly our standards change!

The fact that Seattle now has a higher all time record high than the majority of big U.S. cities is pretty remarkable. And prior to 2021, 108 was considered about the upper end of westside heat potential for anyone from the Willamette Valley north.

There was a station out in Maple Valley that hit 118 during that heat wave. I never thought it would be possible to get 115+ let alone 110+ west of the Cascades in WA. Redmond hit 112 and Duvall hit 107 but I remember the heat index being 115 because of the dew point. That is the hottest weather I’ve ever experienced in my life. The fact that I’ve been to Las Vegas and Phoenix in August before and haven’t witnessed as hot of weather there as I have in WA is crazy to me.

2024 Warm Season Stats

Number of 80+ days - 2

Number of 85+ days - 2 (Warmest so far - 86)

Number of 90+ days - 0

Number of 95+ days - 0

Number of 60+ lows - 0

Definitely much windier here in CO. However, this map may be suspect as it shows Phil barely windier than Tim.

That is somewhat underdone here, though Aug/Sep can be dead calm outside convection in some years.

Feb-Apr are always very windy though, no matter the year. Roars day and night.

There is condensation dripping from the ceiling at the house we’re staying at. This is a sealed indoor room. Absurd humidity.
