Going on basically nothing except the fact that this is a strong niño, I would be shocked if we get another chance this winter. I honestly feel pretty lucky to be seeing the mountain snow dump over the next few days and I’m just hoping it doesn’t get obliterated in a couple weeks by another warm atmospheric river.

2019.

Elevation 580’ Location a few miles east of I-5 on the Snohomish Co side of the Snohomish/Skagit border. I love snow/cold AND sun/warmth!

Portland is more due to score a big event overall, despite last February.

That being said, the Puget Sound's last big January event was in 2012, and Portland's was 2017. So January is more due for Seattle/Tacoma.

There does tend to be a tendency for Portland to score a little more often and bigger during +ENSO winters, for whatever reason.

I’m pretty sure that it’s going to be just fine up here too anyways despite the hand wringing over snow maps 4-5 days away.

I've always wondered, why rain enthusiast and not snowenthusiast? It does make your profile stand out.

If you don't learn to love the rain, it can be tough out here. I see the beautiful ecosystem that the excessive rain supports: the frogs, the moss, the trees, the creeks, the lakes, the salmonberries... how can you not love rain? I get to watch my son tend to our creek or my daughter stomp in puddles. Following heavy storms, the nearby waterfalls act as white noise the moment I step outside my house.

In the last 90 days, I have had ~30" of rain and ~0" of snow. So it works out. Don't get me wrong though, I absolutely love snow.

I think so minus the swamp general area.

  • Feb 2019: Turned to rain instantly while snowed south and north for another 18-36 hours.
  • Jan 2020: Busted down south
  • Dec 2021 I believe? East wind caused Puyallup/South Hill specifically to get 60% less than surrounding cities. Total was 5in I believe.
  • Winter 2022/2023: 2in total (my area did better). Up north/south did good.

The last favored storm for the South Sound was Feb 2017.

I rather have PDX get snow then up north (sorry Randy)😂

I don’t know what the average snowfall per year is in fife…but I’m pretty sure just a few miles away at my house it’s close to double the number. I’ve seen many occasions where it’s snowing and sticking at my house but cold rain in fife.

Well, anywhere from Corvalis to Bellingham could see snow coming up.

A bit early to declare Oregon the big winner.  Have we learned nothing about the models?  Wait a few hours and they'll spit out a new solution.

In the past the modeled precipitation usually lifts further north than expected.

I think everyone is going to get some snow.

Believe.
