Even with things being so suppressed, there will be more surprise sources of precip as we get closer. Some of those surface lows for Feb 2014 didn't show up on the models until very short range. Getting that deep cold air in place is much more important than finding moisture.

It looked pretty much over for the Willamette valley yesterday, but it looks like they could be back in the running now.

Sunday and Monday would be stunningly beautiful days in the Portland area with significant snow on the ground... sunshine... and temps below freezing.

It will have to be eventually trend south. The only question is will it do it in one big jump or slowly?

Or it doesn't, because it is right.

I remember even a day out the models had moisture focused well south. Moisture even made its way further north on the final forecast.

Euro continues to kick the cold 850s out of the region much faster than CMC in the mid range. But would still be pretty chilly at the surface.

Yep i doubt Bellingham would be 39 on Monday. It does this every single time. Warms things up far to fast.

We come from the land of the ice and snow.

Euro shows 10 inches here over the next five days while the GFS/CMC show 1-2 inches or less.

Someone tell me the Euro will be right. Someone tell me the GFS is off it's rocker. Someone tell me the Euro will be King once again.

Just think if the GFS and ECMWF compromise.  It would be amazing for many.

What Jim means is that precipitation fields usually extend further north. Like the precipitation swath would cover a much larger area on the northern extent. Not necessarily that the low will be north itself.

NWS Spokane is probably relying too hard on the GFS. Shocked they are going against the Euro even with the GFS bias. I mean obviously I'd love that but the GFS is on it's own other than partially the CMC. IMG_20240109_104310282.thumb.jpg.4512b9d4aeb587e9e78ec8da77cee02f.jpg
