Barrow, AK might be a better choice to visit! One of the few places that really fascinates me but will likely never make it to.

I really don’t want to write a manifesto on my preferences every other day, but I love spring and summer. It would just be nice not to sit under a stagnant ridge all warm season and choke on smoke and drought. I’m sure you already know I feel this way. It’s not an unreasonable desire. The 50s and rain all summer thing is just strawman crap 💩

The upcoming ridge will be fine I’m sure, and despite all the mischaracterizations I will be out enjoying the weather just as much as anyone. It would be nice if it wasn’t a harbinger of our warm season pattern, though. Although judging by how things have gone in recent years, it may be.

But what good does it do you to hate the world because the climate isn't what is used to be?  Maybe a change of locales is in order.

Not the weather patterns that exacerbated it. Legit drought and heat.

It was a legit question. I never studied the atmospheric dynamics for that decade. I was just always taught that the rapid defoliation and destruction of the great plains topsoil was the primary cause of the phenomenon. Would be interesting to get more details on the decade.

Fair enough.  And further, I would dread the heat you guys get down there too.  You're summer days always outdistance us in that department.  BTW, I wasn't trolling earlier.  If you don't enjoy where you live, it might be time for a change.  Moving can be an awesome experience, regardless of the associated difficulties.  IMO life actually shouldn't be spent in in single area.  Even a move within the same region.  Especially since ours is so diverse. 🖖

That was a big part of the dust for sure, but the weather patterns were the driver.

Ehhhh I was fine with the 2-4 days of 70ish weather. Extending it to a week would be a little much this early, beyond the extent of our usual Spring warm spell.

Anyway…here’s the EPS. Pretty nasty for this early. Not a lot I can say to sugarcoat it.

IMG_0831.png

We just had two weeks of much colder than normal weather including one of the coldest first weeks of March ever, had multiple minor lowland snow events, TONS of mountain snow AND still have 4 more stormy, cool days with feet of mountain snow to get through before the ridge. A week of nice, sunny, warm weather after that isn't hard to put a positive spin on.

The PNW has a pretty awesome climate but the one cool thing we lack is severe thunderstorms. Like one that produces hundreds or thousands of lightning strikes instead of a half dozen.

That is admittedly one thing about the Southwest that I miss.

Haven't you got the memo? Cold spells are the only form of desirable weather and it is only permissible to model ride for cold and snow. Deviation from this rule constitutes trolling.

Target move in date going to coincide with the epic all time mega April heatwave that is coming?

Here is a new feature by day 12 on the 18Z GFS but guessing will be completely different on the 00Z run.   18Z run is good for ghost chasing... both ways.   Phantom ridges and troughs after day 7.

4/26 tentatively and PDX’s record that day is paltry 86 in 2018. We can and should do better.
