More extensive area of low clouds on the east side of the mountains this morning... the only low clouds on the west side appear to be a small area around Eugene.

We reach the earliest sunset of the year on Monday.... its always nice when it stops getting dark earlier every day.   And the following Monday we begin moving in the other direction with the sunset getting later.    The sunset is 11 minutes later by the end of the month.   Meanwhile the sunrise keeps getting later through the end of the month offsetting the later sunset in terms of total daylight.

Pretty insane temps here this morning. 30 at 1am, 55 at 6am, and now 40 at 9:30.  I can't ever recall the east wind starting and stopping so fast before.

Nice to see the 12z GFS is colder with next week's trough.  850s of -7 now.

Another freeze this morning to add to my tally of freezes since October.

October....2 freezes

November....4 freezes

December....4 freezes thus far ( I see a pattern developing here, will December be 8 freezes?).

Currently dead quiet out and 33*

On the other hand here we've had 4 in October, 4 in November, and 2 so far in December (although many of those have been very close with a 32.3F and a 33.1F not included in that total). Hopefully that doesn't mean we don't have 4 every month until the end of the winter...

Geez, I apologize, now Tim has to completely ruin the forum for everyone else for the next 48 hours. Why don't you go watch Jake Tapper.

Apology not accepted. He'd been so delightfully quiet the last few weeks.

We've now had three consecutive good GFS extended runs for late Dec / early Jan.  That is only run on the 0z runs.

I'm always sad when we move past the shortest days in the winter and the longest days in the summer. Both extremes are sort of interesting, especially as you move into our latitude and higher.

The 12z GFS has a really good look at the end.  Kind of looking like it often does before the hammer drops.

Not sure what Andrew averages there.

Our average is probably around 50 inches... but that is a blend of years with very little snow and years with 100+ inches of snow.

Not that warm, especially by Sunday, as it shows even the lowlands of Eastern Washington getting snow.   Not particularly cold though either.

The WB maps were stuck on Thursday last I checked.   I was looking at the upper air pattern which looks pretty warm to me... even on Sunday.   And the 500mb pattern looks like it will be wet.

WB maps updating again... pretty warm and wet on this side next weekend.   Highs in the low to mid 50s with two major rain events.

The ECMWF looks like much better things are ahead at the end of the run.  The PNA forecast shows it finally going minus on the last day also.

Yet another day there are 60 degree readings in the lowlands today.  That is likely to be answered during a Nina season.  I'm pretty envious of Portland going into cold (or at least chilly) outflow now.
