Snow from Tuesday evening through Wednesday morning per the 12Z ECMF.    A band of precip rotates north into western WA overnight but falls apart as it moves northward into offshore flow.   Precip totals from that system from Olympia northward are only around .01 or .02

There was a light dusting at daybreak here in Cordata but it has since melted.

27 and light snow. First flakes in 14 days here. I think today is just a teaser, mid-week looks snowier and the end of the month may feature my first real "storm" of the season.

This is my 26th day I'm observing flakes falling, but somehow came up with this wimpy snowfall total. It's like a really long version of March 2011 up to this point.

Glad I wasn't very invested in this snowfall, had a great sleep last night woke up late to find 39F rain. Places further north have done well with this though.

Snow is actually increasing here. Temp was up to 34.4 now back down to 33.8.

If the bulk of precip was 6 hrs earlier there would of been a couple inches here.

The upcoming pattern is not necessarily far from delivering some winter weather to folks, but past performance is often indicative of the future in this climate. 

We know winters, even Ninas can just completely fail like this. Even though we have not had a good/great regional winter since 2016/17, we have had a lot of things break our way to salvage a couple of those winters. er

In our climate fine details make a huge difference. A few tweaks to Tuesday night's system and the Portland area could see some snow, but precip looks pretty light, it's hard to imagine that producing more than flakes in the air to a dusting. Maybe there is still some potential next weekend.

At the end of the day though, we have winters like this. The late 90s and early 2000s were full of them.

Staley Jnct at 270' along Hwy 26 has a dusting now. 

NW coast range is doing well with decent precip rates. Here we've only picked up about 0.01" of precip. Still some light flurries, but you'd probably have to go up to almost 3000' to find the sticking snow line with such light precip.

By February 5th we will likely be able to stick a fork in winter for the lowlands. Could still see a 3/14/20 type event though.

Just saying on February 5th we will have a good idea where things are headed. If the pattern shows no potential at that point then we will be safe saying it's over. Of course today's 12z GFS was pretty chilly for February 5th ;). Unfortunately it has no ensemble support.
