Kiro FM reporting that I-5 is now closed due to flooding. We are cut off in the Puget sound area now with all passes closed.

Wow.

This system has actually been similar to the AR event and snowstorm we had out here in early December 2007.     That event also closed I-5 down there and dumped massive snow in the mountains.

Wow!!! It needs to hurry up and get here so I can continue my solid snowcover…Almost to the point to where I can’t say that anymore.

I think all my snow is completely melted. Sad day, but now I can go get my car washed. Or at least do that once we hit a more dry stretch.

Really storming down here in Sandy. Branches all over the road. Very wet. I-84 was closed yesterday in both directions  from Troutdale to Cascade Locks due to a bad mudslide. Temperature has also fallen. Now 42 with some hail. I worry about the tall trees around my house, they are getting water-logged.

20 mile stretch between Grand Mound and Chehalis I believe.  Amtrak is also shut down due to mud slides so we don't have that option for getting to Portland, etc.

We could always fly although I don't know how @TacomaWaWx would feel about that option...

Wild. That's significantly more than Seattle averages in their wettest month of the year.

3.4" in downtown Ashland. Despite the airport still saying "light snow" there isn't anything actually falling. It stopped around midnight last night. I hope we don't have a wonky sensor. Probably mist being mistaken as snow. No echoes on radar either.

You will see a 1.8" in SW Ashland but whoever sent that report is nowhere near the actual city. Catlettsburg has a 6.0" report and that is just outside of town here. 🧐

Looks like the reports vary quite a bit. Overall my first snow wasn't heavy.

Thinking of starting to actually try to keep official weather records for my station. How do y'all do it? Excel spreadsheet?

I have thought about asking this question myself, I am always amazed to see people pulling up all of these stats and data from the past and wonder how they catalogue it.

I have set up a spreadsheet that I dump data in from one of the weather service warehouses.  It takes some fiddling about with the data, but I have the data for KBLI going back to when it started in 1949 or 1950.  I am really strong with formulas/formula logic to pull together data, but I have always struggled with presentation of data.  Reading through the comments, I see @Tyler Mode says he has a pretty good set up, I would be curious to see what it looks like if willing to share....

As for @hawkstwelve set up, that is really slick, and I have talked back and forth with him to try to replicate what he has, but I keep running into roadblocks and "life" prevents me from getting it finished.  I have a Rasbperry Pi set up, and it pulls the data in, but I had trouble getting it to a database then back out to a website.  I need to get back to that and try to get it across the finish line.  Unfortunately, its been so long, I almost need to start over, as I doubt I will be able to remember where I stopped.. I think I was having problems with getting the correct port settings for the data to move.

With it being an R-Pi, I'll probably set up another memory card and pop it in, start over, and log each step I do in a notebook.  That what I'll have my previous effort captured on another card just in case....

Here are some screenshots of my file using weather service data.  There are still some data calculations I need to get working.  I did this a few years ago, Microsoft has incorporated some very powerful formula commands over the past year or so, I need to go through these and try to incorporate those formulas plus skills/tactics I have learned since I first did this.  Kind of like the R-Pi project, I keep getting derailed by "adulting"

We've dropped from 46 to 37 since 6am. Looks like the local weather station gusted to 52mph this morning around 4am.

We are at the black arrow. Black line good for winter weather possibilities. Red line bad for winter weather possibilities.
