Yeah I am shocked with the lack of coverage for the Bozeman area.  I get that there will be a lot of areas in Montana without coverage given the terrain, but Bozeman????  Kinda surprised for Missoula too, but I guess it is a lot more mountainous there compared to Bozeman.

I can’t even remember the last time LWX radar went down. If that happened during thunderstorm season, it would be talked about for weeks if not months!

It was pretty rare for MAX to go down, in comparison to Portland's or a few others.

One time pi$$ed me off when they actually planned an upgrade, they did it in early August 2012 and one of the strongest storms in K-Falls happened during the upgrade. They could have done that in September, when they go weeks straight of 80 and sunshine, and nothing going on.

Yeah it's pretty insane that we still have zero coverage especially with the severe summer storms that we also get. Missoula actually does have radar coverage though as they have a radar right at the airport.

It’s more the solar radiation than the temps. Heats the house quickly at this time of year.

I’d open the windows but there are clouds of gnats emerging from the soil today. Would be all over the house.

I already started seeing a fat bumble bee cruising around, not real crazy on the gnats at the moment.

CFS ENSO forecast looks remarkably stable. It is trending down over the next several weeks, but looks to stay in weak Nina status through the foreseeable future.

The only thing I don't like about it is the lack of a composite view.  Sometimes the Seattle radar can't pick up what is going on here, and the Abbotsford radar has a lot of blind spots down this way (not sure what they were smoking when they selected a site for that radar, but they didn't share!)

 

Any way, sometimes its better to go to a composite view to get a better sense of what is happening in the area up here.

Have you tried increasing the tilt angle? Helps overcome some of the terrain obstruction.

Up until 2019, been using the GR programs but after getting one of my newest laptops, something with a GIS file was causing them not to work right. They're still supported I know that.

PDX put up a -10 departure yesterday. Much was made of their "warm" high, but it was still 10 degrees below average. In addition to the record snow, there was also record precip for the date.

Per cams it's now snowing on Hwy 22 between Salem and Stayton, just over 550'. Looks like its snowing at Silver Falls too.

Had a nice burst of graupel in the Renton Highlands around 9:50, and the clouds lightened up for a bit; the wind is picking up again and it looks like we might get another shower or two. Very curious to see how cold it gets tonight. Glad I was a lazy bum and didn't plant anything this previous weekend!

PDX actually recorded more precip yesterday with 1.13" than they did last year between March 29 and June 10, when 1.12" fell.

12Z ECMWF shows a significant and extended AR event pointed directly at Western WA next week... which is good because this is definitely the place along that West Coast that desperately needs it the most.

Hope we can keep a Niña background state through Feb 2023. Barring some unforeseen event, next winter should have westerly QBO. Would put us in pretty uncharted analog territory, but I feel like one of the next couple winters is going to be exceptional here.
