Just this winterlike chill to the air. Dark outside too. If the trees weren’t mostly leafed out, it would be pretty hard to tell today apart from a typical December day.

Gonna be a while before we see any appreciable warmup either, even with a WPAC MJO transit coming up (which would probably roast us in last year’s background state). Some real 2008/2011 vibes. Or maybe it could just be a 1967 bait-and-switch. Who knows.

At some point we’ll see a +MT/+dAAMt dampen this La Niña background state (which is normal..saw it in both 2011 and 2008, as well) but that process may actually perpetuate the cool pattern in the West as seasonal dynamics/relationships change quickly during the spring.

At the very least, it’s a much healthier and more stable -ENSO regime than last year. Possibly the most impressive since 1999. Going to be tough to climb out of this. And we probably won’t climb out of it...odds of a 3rd year -ENSO are increasing.

Only saw rain during the day today. Got a bit unlucky with the shower placement.

Pet sitting over in Lake Oswego tonight and there were some splats on the windshield as I drove over just now. Down to 38 under these showers and getting closer to a snow/rain mix.

Safe to say this April has beaten several recent Januaries.

Since 2012 only January 2012,17, and 20 have had more snow...might pass 2020 tonight.

Latest HRRR coming in really juicy with those showers to PDX metro. Even the party pooper Kuchera map looks good. Most of this falling from 10PM - 3AM.

47/34 today 0.05” of rain/melted snow. Wouldn’t surprise me if we get more snow tonight but I’d put the odds at 25%. We did atleast score during this event…while the light slushy accumulation was brief today…I’d consider it enough to call it a trace. Meaning our latest measurable snowfall in 14 years!

Tacoma WA elevation 300’

Monthly rainfall-3.56”

Warm season rainfall-11.14”

Max temp-88

+80 highs-2

+85 highs-2

+90 highs-0

Ya that’s a good one as well.  My go to’s for weather watching have been Carkeek, then pinnacle at the top of cougar mountain, then rattlesnake ledge.

Offshore flow is developing out here now... radar echoes are fading across the interior of western WA.   There is precip over me according to the radar but I can make out the outline of the moon through the clouds and nothing is falling.

Finally a snow event where I am getting more than you. Reminds me of 2012. Lol
