I was in Sunriver when that went down - one of the top stretches of winter weather I've seen. Just incredible amounts of snow especially on Mt Bachelor. Every snow forecast just massively overperformed.

Likewise, only thing that was kind of lame was getting shafted on Arctic air. Models were showing temps well below zero until a few days before... then rugpulled the Arctic air up into northern WA.

Late December was great here. 27” of snow over a few days. Didn’t get as cold as we thought it might, but sometimes that’s the trade off for more moisture.

Mean temp this month is 49.9 so far.

A below normal month seems in the bag. Sunday might be a fairly warm day in the willamette valley, but that’s the only day over the next week that could be decently above normal . And that would mainly be due to mild lows.

If the euros right we will continue to struggle to hit 60 all the way into late May. Think we’ve got a pretty good shot at a below normal month. We’ve also got a shot at 200% of normal rainfall definitely a Jesse approved month.

We are about 3.6” from the wettest May on record. Not a slam dunk by any means, but we’ve over achieved on pretty much every system so far this month.

I have a lot of friends in frats… while they’re good guys, frats aren’t for me. Most of them from what I’ve seen are just overglorified drinking clubs. And considering I by choice don’t drink at all… I wouldn’t fit into most of them.

Does anyone know if any place in the western WA or OR lowlands has been under a blizzard warning before? Besides the Columbia River Gorge, as the winds there are probably strong enough a lot of the time. Maybe places in Whatcom County or the east Portland Metro Area?

suppose so. i’m sure after a cool summer though he’ll be harkening on about “the coldest year since 2011 by avg temp” or something like that, citing Spring for its cold nature, being glad for the cold anomalies we’re currently getting.

Tantrum?   Where?

Some of you just like to pretend as a form of entertainment for yourself.     My wife thinks I am bored... I haven't had much emotion at all lately.    Nothing to be excited about or look forward to.      The only time I even mention the weather at home lately is when we are going to have a rare nice day so she can plan accordingly.   Of course we are dealing with significant health issues on both sides of the family right now so the focus has really shifted anyways.  Not sure I could have even enjoyed a nice spring at this point.

I'm really sorry to hear this Tim. I've been there and it sucks. Sending positive thoughts and energy your way.

The Euro forecast from this morning was once again wetter than what transpired. Forecast was for 0.4-0.8" in Skagit County and actual totals ended up being 1/2 to 1/3 that with 0.1-0.4". Of course it's hard to forecast some of these more hit or miss showers, but it continues a pattern I've noticed this spring.

I picked up 0.12" here which brings me to 1.87" on the month.

I like the random isolated heavy showers with sunbreaks that we're getting. The winds with this system were fun as well. A few dry days would by nice, but I don't mind too much. Also, I noticed that your highest recorded temp and lowest recorded temp were in the same year, which is pretty crazy!

If the Feb 2021 storm had shifted 10-20 miles south, I would've got 8-12 inches of snow. Instead I got a major sleet storm lol. Definitely better than pure freezing rain though, I'm lucky to have avoided the major outages. Horrible for the people that did lose power for a while though.

00z GFS is incredible. This is legitimately one of the most intense La Niña regimes I have ever seen, even from a historical perspective. Spring 2011 and 1955 come to mind. Super insane stuff.

In truth, the weather since the 2nd half of August last year has been great. Colder than normal way more often than not, plenty of precipitation, and an intense Arctic event around Christmastime to boot. Nice to finally tip the scale in the other direction.

Like check this out.... Pattern deviates slightly (still colder than normal w/ onshore flow, mind you), then blocking resumes and a massive gyre of lower than normal heights parks itself right over the PNW and stays there. AK blocking forcing 500mb cyclogenesis right over the PNW, literally -ENSO concentrate. The exact mean that climo regresses to, lasting for days on end. This is the stuff you'll see 14 day averages show, except nearly no variation on a day-to-day timescale. Not even sure 2011 produced that.

It's like since late Mar, the Bering Sea and mainland AK have played hot potato with high latitude blocking setups. Each one is cold for the PNW this time of year, just one more so than the other.

Even though the arctic air didn't make it all the way here, I had around 6 inches of snow this winter which isn't bad, and kind of a white Christmas (started snowing on the night of the 25th). Let's hope this summer can continue the trend!
