Tom
Just got back from taking care of some errands and the roads are a complete slop fest. Sleet changed over to rain, came down heavy, now back to sleet/snow mix, huge puddles of water on the sides of the roads...I literally hydroplaned...congrats to those in IA/MN/WI...I think those in C WI are going to be the winners. Nice vid Snowshoe! I love these kind of snow storms.

Tom
This storm should def kick start the ski/snow mobile season in Wisco/MN region where it has been dead for the most part this Winter. Good for the local economy where businesses really count on mother nature to cooperate. Actually, it is well timed for the New Year weekend. Raining pretty hard here right now and 35 degrees. This is probably the most depressing part of this storm! The worst part is when it starts pouring rain...give me snow/sleet or just plain old rain...the whole scene turns to yuck! Can't wait for the first powdery snowfall of the season. Geos
6.2" of snow and sleet here total. Ended as some light mist about 10pm. Now sitting at 34°.This was the hardest shoveling I've ever done. The weight of the stuff is crazy - even with my fancy shovel on a wheel. This will turn into a glacier no doubt later on and stick around a while. Low over Chicago now. Credit goes out to the GGEM/RGEM for sure. GFS probably second place prize. Hawkeye
I got some decent snow for a couple hours first thing this morning and a bit more at the end, but the nine hours in between was all sleet. I ended up with about 4 inches. The gauge catch was 1.26", although the real precip total is likely higher because of strong wind. The models generally had me right on the steep cliff with much more accumulation just west and north and not much to the southeast, and that is exactly how it panned out. Our temp never rose above 28, so the stuff isn't wet, but it's very dense and heavy and there's a crusty layer next to the pavement. It was a real beotch to clean. Our first storm back in November was heavy slop, so this winter isn't making it easy. East Dubzz
Would love to know the amount of liquid that came along with that storm in my area. I know it was about 3" of sleet and 3" of snow. Definitely had to be over an inch of QPF. Too bad that wasn't all snow, would probably have over a foot. It was a still a prett entertaining story and I don't ever remember seeing that much sleet or it coming down as hard as it was yesterday. Would rather have snow, but I guess it's cool to see something else. I just want the snow to stick around, seeing snow on the ground finally is refreshing.
