Remember what the alternative could be…Wondering how many weeks of endless split flow will last…The stuff of nightmares right there!

Elevation 580’ Location a few miles east of I-5 on the Snohomish Co side of the Snohomish/Skagit border. I love snow/cold AND sun/warmth!

You would need the low to come in much further north. Of course that would screw people to the south...but that's usually how this works.

Here is the 00z Euro

00z GFS

prateptype_cat.conus.png

Pretty remarkably good agreement between the GFS and Euro on the strength and position of this low.

The GEM has it too but it is much weaker and even further south.

Given this feature is showing up on all 3 models now and for more than 1 run now, it is starting to get a bit interesting.

Interestingly EURO shows surface temps 30-32 as precip falls-- would like that trend to continue in future runs. Not that the vast majority of anafront situations don't have very marginal mid-upper 30s temps.

Blocking is off the charts.  If this continues all winter it's going to be amazing.

Anafronts have much less propensity to move 300 miles north or south as a developing low. But 20-30 miles can make a massive difference because if you aren’t under the heavy precip band then you aren’t going to get snow.

What are some simple things we can do at home to attract the precip band to our area?

Gonna be a fun ride with the anafronts. Break hearts for some, rejoice for others!

Wasn’t that an anafront in late January 2008 that gave the Eugene area several inches of slop? I know we got crushed up here with that one too.

Flash freeze at the end of the run from SEA northward.  Spilling south very fast too.

Hard to buy with so much blocking.  Could happen though.

Pretty strong La Niña vibes for the last month or so besides the big ridging in mid November. This is definitely some drought busting stuff with potential for snow too!

Here's what we know. There has been very little model constancy run to run. Feels like this coming pattern change will through some curve balls

I'd be surprised if most us aren't happy by Dec 15 or so.

If I recall Eugene had an anafront that produced 7-8 inches of snow very late in the season, maybe March 2012?

Both of those happened. Jan 2008 was a bit elevation based though. I got 8 inches at 750' but the valley floor only got 3-4".
