Seems like the Euro ice totals keep going up with each run, that is the concerning part. At least the snow totals went up a bit for me so hopefully it will be mostly snow to plain rain here. (Can’t believe I just said that )

PDX down to 30F with a DP of 17. 

Still the warmest spot in that area, the other nearby stations are reading 26-29F.

The half inch of snow we got yesterday was huge for making it feel wintry today. Such a huge difference between that and getting nothing. Still jealous of those NW WA totals but not as much as I would have been had I gotten nothing.

NWS only going with ice accum up to 0.2” here. Seems to be lower than any model output. Is this just typical NWS SEA conservatism, or is there a reason to think the models are over doing it?

Yeah that’s my concern this close to the event. One more jump up and this thing gets pretty serious. Already is for some. The EURO would put places in the third category.

It’s coming. We will be losing sleep waiting for the 6z’s before you know it! 2nd week of January will be model ridingville again!

5PM SPC Mesoanalysis has 850mb temps above PDX at just a hair above -6c. The 12z Euro predicted -4.0c at this time. Hopefully the airmass continues to be a bit cooler than modeled aloft going into tomorrow.

I've just watched a bunch of these with great detail for 35 years. I think we have a shot because if the offshore flow. It is a very unique set up though. But I believe there will be more snow than freezing rain north of tacoma.

I am thoroughly enough convinced of the ice storm that I rescheduled my vasectomy from Friday am to tomorrow. Currently 25 on the east shore of lake tapps.

You know i’m not sure. I bet Padden is frozen. I haven’t been by the North end of Lake Whatcom. It’s been pretty windy here about 2 miles south, with waves pushing up on the shore. Unless we have sustained teens for a week, it won’t freeze with a breeze like this. It’s down to 10 degrees already. If it can stay clear, 5* isn’t out of the question.  This is from about 3 this afternoon. Absolutely perfect out. Stewart Mountain is so majestic covered in snow with setting sun on it.

14.9 and the wind is ranging.  Mr. Davis Station is telling me our wind chill is currently -3.

Hundreds of people were skating on Lake Padden in January of 2017. The entire thing was frozen several inches thick.

Lake Goodwin also froze over in Jan 2017. However I only walked out about a foot or so lol.

Crazy! Yet here at 6300' in the Sierra we are gonna be 50F tomorrow. All the other arctic air masses being listed like 2010, 2008 etc we were also cold. weird to have a top tier arctic air mass miss us entirely. I actually can't think of any others that did.

25.1756 degrees currently after a high of 32.2569 today.  Got some liquid gold for the genny just in case.  Like @MR.SNOWMIZER I feel like there could be more snow than progged before the switchover to potentially damaging ice.  How long we hold on to the offshore flow is important, but will need to keep an eye on the 825 and 950 temps starting tomorrow morning, I will post the current ones shortly and if an admin or staff member could pin the post they will update  as each hour passes on the forum at the top, @Meatyorologist @snow_wizard @TT-SEA, I know there are others, too lazy to find em.

After last nights snow we’re up to 6” of snow this winter. We will see if we manage to get a bit more snow before the freezing rain starts but I doubt it. Definitely expecting 0.25-0.5 of ice Friday morning I might consider not going to work that day. Should be another cold day tomorrow!
