If tonight isn't our coldest night of the winter, that would be seriously impressive.

This is a deep airmass (deeper than modeled), with clear skies and the longest night of the year after the shortest day. Just about the best case scenario you could imagine.

Hopefully this bodes well for the tomorrow night stuff. Would love to see more snow and shortens the ZR duration.

Snow cover too. We didn’t lose any snow today in my area.

Holy crap, temperatures are dropping like a damn rock. I keep refreshing Wundermap every 10-15 mins, and it's around 0.5-1F colder across the board. Maybe we hit 19F at my place before 5pm?!?

Forgot to mention that. Snow is an amazing insulator. Tonight may be the coldest all this century given global warming.

The benchmark this century for KSEA is 14F in 2008 and 2010.

I wonder if KSEA will have a sub-20F tomorrow. Hasn't happened since February 1989. That is my personal benchmark for what consitutes a top-tier airmass. That and single digit lows.

We could potentially get there.

I’m already at 12 degrees, single digits should be a cake walk tonight up here.

NWS going on the lighter side and once again against the guidance of the EURO…hope they’re right this time. image.thumb.png.b1c89b507fb5d558783f74491b8b1bdd.pngimage.thumb.png.838c79d613343ae9bbcf11bf47529d3e.png

I’m betting the models scour it out too quickly. I’ve got a bad feeling about this one. We haven’t had a significant ice storm in almost 11 years so it would be damaging.

Likely pretty top tier regionally if this had just scooted a tad more SW.

The daytime high of -8 at Kamloops today is extremely impressive and looks like their coldest since 12/29/1990.

The fact that this pattern is occurring the exact same week as 1983 and 1990 makes it a lot more difficult to break records across the West. Still, looks like many places may see their coldest highs and/or lows since then.

If it had happened a week earlier, lots of records would be falling.

22.1F at my station. Quickly approaching my station's all-time low of 19 (Jan 1st, 2022).

That would be amazing, but something tells me we score a low 20s high around 11:53 PM. 😕

Down to 21. You make it to 19 yet?

2022-23 Winter:

11/29: .25" + 1" = 1.25" | 11/30: .25"

12/2: .2" + .5" = .7" | 12/3: .2" | 12/4: trace

12/18: .4" | 12/19: .2" + .8" = 1.0" | 12/20: .2 + 1.5" = 1.7

1/31: trace | 2/14: trace | 2/22: .2 | 2/26: 1.0"

SeaTac is up to 22

Those 21s on the inter-hour readings are just rounded and are very likely readings of 22.

Yeah I’m preparing for the worst personally. Heading to the store in a bit. Done betting against the EURO.

Yeah I think I’m going to as well later this evening. We could very well lose power at times happened during the last storm. This isn’t modeled to be quite as much as 2012…but would be very bad still.
