Probably won't see something like that again in our lifetime (In February at least.). I don't think I truly appreciated how special February 2019 was in the moment, and in many ways I think a lot of us still fail to recognize how special it was. We talk a lot about the all-time months, the January 1969's, January 1950's, December 2008's of the world. February 2019 is in that pantheon IMO. In our climate the ceiling on a February is not going to be that of a great December or January, but February 2019 was about as special as they get.

I knew it was a once in a lifetime the evening i stood on my deck with my son and watched it hammer snow and thunder snow with 28 inches on the ground already.  I told him we might never see this again. I think out peak depth was 33 inches.

Going back further February 1887 and 1936 were also all pretty great.

We could certainly do better for cold, but given the sustained nature of the cold and the amount of lowland snow, it's unlikely we see a repeat. February has been our time to shine though, so a cold February and/or early to mid-month arctic blast would not stun be at all.

Looking at 1887 amazes me. Am average temp of 32.0 and negative temp departures every day except last two days. Consistent cold + a major airmass

Also a totally different climate back then. That kind of cold doesn't even happen in mid-winter now.

Yep. Fun to look at though.

I'd agree February 2019 is probably the most impressive February in probably the last 75 years at least  and just a great month for consistent cold and snowy in most areas except here.

March 8, 2019. The shop roof was starting to collapse, so I was trying to shovel some snow off it.

Starting to look like we may flirt with something on the chilly side the last week of January. Even if I only get a dusting IMBY for the month of January I would honestly call that a W with how January has been recently.

2023 - 2024 Cold Season Stats

Total Snowfall - 0.75”

Max Snow Depth - 0.5”

Coldest High Temp - 21 (Jan 13)

Coldest Low Temp - 9 (Jan 13)

Number of Freezes - 51

Sub-40 highs - 12

Highs 32 or lower - 3

Yeah, speaking locally here in the last 75 years I would prefer 2021, 2018, 2014, 2011, 1996, 1995, 1994, 1993, 1990, 1989, 1986, 1985, 1971, 1962, 1957, 1956, 1955, 1950, 1949, and 1948. So a really long list.

Finally crossed over the inch mark on the month!

Currently light drizzle/breezy/52 degrees.

.03” on the day, 1.02” for the month.

Elevation 580’ Location a few miles east of I-5 on the Snohomish Co side of the Snohomish/Skagit border. I love snow/cold AND sun/warmth!

Yeah I'd 100% take most of those Februaries over 2019 but regionally it was really impressive. We had like 4" of snow in 2019 mostly late in the month.

Sure and someone in Eugene would take December 2013 over December 2008, but it doesn't change the fact that regionally December 2008 was the best month this Century.

Bummer that even if we get a great setup in the coming weeks there will be virtually no real cold air to work with.

I give a February surprise about a 3% chance this year.

This winter is starting to feel real short and real done.

The great news though....spring training is right around the corner! Go Giants!

Yes, the discussion was relegated to our specific area.

February 2021 (🥰) was objectively a much bigger, more exciting, and more impactful event at my location. Regardless of how warm the nose was at My Location.

SF biggest snowfall was in Feb 1887.

1887 Feb 5 3.7" Snow fell during the day. Up to 7" of Twin Peaks.

5 of their 11 snowfalls were in the 1880's. Krakatoa responsible?
