PNW February 2023 Weather Discussion - Meteorological winter finale

532 is the main drag between I-5 to Camano Island…Looks like even that lower elevation is getting it. And it looks like Stanwood SD called it a day.

Elevation 580’ Location a few miles east of I-5 on the Snohomish Co side of the Snohomish/Skagit border. I love snow/cold AND sun/warmth!

Definitely covering the ground across all of Salem. Roads look fine though. Just a little snow cover in south Salem.

Such a strange set up.   Low goes to north and the Seattle area gets screwed with a south wind but the central WV is still getting heavy snow at the same time as areas to the north of Seattle.

More of a precip issue than a cold air issue. Not much of an airmass change or even a sharp N/S temp gradient with this scenario... Hence the nonexistent baroclinity and filling low.

Honestly looking at my stats from past winters does make me feel a little better about this not working out as this is my second snowiest winter since 2016-2017. A 7 inch event and then a bunch of nice little 1/4”-2” events here and there throughout the winter IMBY. Definitely was good snow wise and cold wise too with four separate cold snaps getting down to at least 20.

Less than 0.25" fell last night. Just enough to whiten the grass and briefly dot the roads during the heaviest portion.

Unfortunately this immeasurable snow (or insignificant 1/8") doesn't get us to 6", or our seasonal average. We very well may finish the cold season off as a below average snow season here despite countless snowfall chances and persistently cool weather outside of January, in the midst of a La Niña.

It has to really try hard to snow so little out of so much cold weather.  0.6" here out of the entire event.

Totally agree.  Almost makes me want to move somewhere locally that gets more snow but I won't.  Need to finish out my career with 8 years to go. We just haven't done well here this winter and it always seems like people north of Seattle do so much better, with a few exceptions.

Compared to most places in the Seattle area we actually have done pretty good this year. Little bit of elevation for all the marginal events this winter really helped. We were never in the bullseye of any particular event this winter for the most part but managed a bit of snow just about every time.

Whelp, I can't say I didn't see this last week when so many were optimistic. The Seattle snow was simply a mirage, a remarkable combination of poorly modeled low positions, marginal temperature profiles, and bad luck. I'm looking forward to the warmer weather. This winter has been exhausting.

I was pretty excited sometime in the night (between 3-5am) when I looked out my window to see about 3" of snow, the streets covered. I wondered how I might get to my appointment in Mill Creek later today. And then, when I woke up at 6am and looked out, I was so disappointed. Already the streets were clearing, and now they are bare and wet. Yes, there is snow to look at, but I fear it will be gone by noon. *sigh*😕

I have been lacking moisture here for the majority of these events while staying below freezing most of the time. Finally squeezed a few inches out. Elevation?

We come from the land of the ice and snow.

The unfortunate nature of snowfall in the lowlands after about February 20th or so. Very hard to not have melting by this time of year when we actually manage accumulating snowfall.

Yosemite Valley is going to be gorgeous tomorrow with a fat layer of snow.
