In the interest of being fully transparent, this is a tough forecast coming up for tomorrow. We do have some computer models that are shifting the axis of heavier snow a little farther south toward Lincoln and Omaha, but some models are not. Still assessing the details.

Jfc.... ANOTHER band developing and about to make its way through Lincoln. In the meantime we're back down to light snow. 15.6*F.

Yeah the radar is back filling all around the Omaha and Lincoln metro areas, and the snow shield is really expanding again across Eastern Nebraska. So much for the snow being done around here, this definitely will help add a little bit more to the local storm totals.

This happened very close to where I live, between the Harrison/Giles Exit and Highway 50. Interstate 80 is currently closed to all westbound traffic heading west out of Omaha due to this accident.

Biggest snowflakes of the season falling now. Most of them are quarter sized and even some monster half dollar ones. Just insane. I’ve never seen flakes this big. About 1” so far.

Small flakes/pixie dust right now, but it’s coming down hard. I’d assume it’s because we are in a pocket of lighter returns. I don’t know how flake size was earlier though, I presume bigger as we probably have 1.5-2.0” down so far.

Sitting at 1.5 to maybe 2” here in north Omaha and that all fell this afternoon. Basically off and on flurries since then. Been very frustrating to see all the additional accumulating snow stay just south of me by maybe 10 miles in Omaha and points south/southwest of here.

Down to pixie dust here now. May get moderate again soon but I feel like the heaviest stuff is done for good. North side of Lincoln may cash in some which is good. 16.0*F.

After getting shafted all afternoon it's finally ripping pretty good for awhile now. Up to around 2" so far. Only had .10" to .20" earlier this afternoon.

Was in an annoying hole for a little bit, but its come back around and snowing decently again.

We had a nice burst for an hour a bit earlier, the first 1"/hr rate of the season.  During a lull at 10:45pm I measured 2.1".

Things are accumulating nicely right now. Probably 2.5" or so. 25 degrees out and snowing decently. We do have a realistic shot at 6" I feel.

Seems more pixie dusty so I think this thing might be taking its last breaths. Should be done by 1 or so.

 

Edit: Right as I say this it picks up a good bit and flake size increases, but still can't go on much longer.

Back to decent snow fall rates in Des Moines...It doesn't want to quit.  The northern deformation band looks like it may hang on for awhile.

Still going strong here this last band is starting to stall about the only thing that will end it appears to be dry air.

I was up to 3.5" storm total just after midnight. Tapped down the gauges which should keep them from running over till it ends I hope. Snooze time now, to help my sleep deprivation.

I am at 3.2" so far but now have heaviest of the entire event. I am at 1/4 visibility. Even the. "Big city" airport of Des Moines down to half mile with freezing fog

Really setting up shop along I-80 between OMA and DSM. With temps in the mid teens-- 20:1 ratios are not out of the question.

A significant lull here for the past couple of hours - NWS says the heaviest is on the way, but they keep saying that - the radar looks goodthough, so there’s hope - otherwise it looks like maybe a couple of inches so far.
