I'm impressed at how well their flood control systems seem to be handling this. So far I've seen a couple of mudslides and some minor street flooding, but nothing worse than that. Maybe the worst is yet to come since I assume nobody is driving around the foothills???

Man SoCal getting slammed again tonight. Last two winters have both been top-tier there. Hopefully the beginning a new precip regime..intra/interdecadal wet regime in SW US is also (generally) a good sign w/rt prospects for contracted subtropical highs.

You know it’s a weird pattern when SoCal gets 24/7 coverage on TWC. Sometimes they go several consecutive years with barely a passing mention.

Gem as well. Op runs have not been doing great recently

I mean I’d love the GFS to be right, gives me 14” of snow over the next 10 days. But the way it handles the high latitude pattern is BS.

Well there's still a few good ensembles from the 00z GFS, more than previous runs. I still believe we have a shot at something in the last half of this month, and in early March. This image is for Portlandgfs-portland-us-455n-122.thumb.png.7ca4cbfc7b86ff0f849a5b6903515104.png

Had a 30/43 day, midnight low temp. Got above freezing a bit before sunrise so couldn't enjoy the snow much today. 34 now, a little less than an inch remains.

Was looking at webcams in California, quite a lot of them are down. Looks pretty snowy at Big Bear Lake, 7100 ft elevation in so cal. There's a bald eagle with a few eggs buried under that snow, and it's got another foot on the way!Screenshot_20240205-233312_YouTube.thumb.jpg.6dcc858151658bebea86a00cd406fd85.jpg

Can confirm. I go in to work at 5pm, so normally right at the peak of evening rush hour. Normally takes me an 1hr 15min to make it in, and today it took me 35 minutes. I honestly cannot believe how well this city has handled this event.

The fact that UCLA just posted 12" of rain in 24 hours, yet so many rubes on twitter are screeching about how this was a nothingburger and they remember way worse 30 years ago is a testament to modern flood control and engineering.

Mildly interesting, but at the end of the day as we head into mid-February. It takes a lot

to get snow down to the lowest elevations. Sometimes we don’t realize how hard it is just because of the past 10-15 years.
