Very favorable changes on the GFS with that trough.  Looks more Graphcasty.

The operational GFS is probably out to lunch w/ how it creates a pseudo cutoff/trough from essentially nothing. Does that sort of thing every late winter/spring, for what reasons I don’t know.

Is that a clipper on the GEM?

About .5” tonight in Bend. Season total 23” now. Average is about 30” so this winter won’t be too far below average despite the warmth.

It’s been a different route this year. Only 2.5” behind this time last year but I doubt I get another 18”. 36 days with measurable snow that totaled 42” last year. This year I have 7 days that have totaled 23”.

Have seen midsummer frost in the high Cascades a few times when camping there.

Saw it get into the mid-30s in August when camped along the old Blewett Pass highway not far from Liberty.

Looks like it has frozen every single day of the year at Paradise save August 5th and August 8th when the record lows are 33F. Not too bad. And in an average year it freezes at least once every month except August when the average coldest temperature of the month is only 33F.

Yeah.   Great view and beach but will never stay here again.   And not to get political but Hawaii needs to get it's act together post COVID.    Literally every beach for 25 miles past Honolulu is now elaborate homeless encampments.   Massive structures out of pallets and tarps.   Beaches are basically not accessible unless you are in protected resort areas.   It's a shame.   Piles of garbage everywhere.   Totally unsafe and destroying natural beauty.   It's Seattle and Portland times 1,000.

Yep.   So no rules or laws on the beaches or in parks... everyone else must follow the rules though.   Saw a guy literally sh*tting on the walkway between the beach and the highway tonight.    Assume that is not a problem.   Go ahead and try it yourself.   25 miles of makeshift shelters.  And the massive piles of garbage and waste between the tent/fort structures... assume that is fine as well.    I should just throw our garbage over the balcony.  The reality is they let this go during the pandemic and can't reel it back in now.    Now its too easy.   Just go build a massive pallet fort right in the middle of a public beach and park.   Are there building code rules in place for their protection and safety like the people across the highway in actual homes have to follow?    This is not a good way for a society operate... it just isn't and I don't care what side of the political aisle you are on.    Its downright sad.

Yep.   It was never this bad.   It really feels like lots of people decided to come to Hawaii during the pandemic and try living "off the grid" by taking over every public beach and park along the ocean because no one was going to stop them and the weather is always perfect.   Hawaii had it hands full with COVID but now they have another big problem.

I wonder if some of the recent homeless are those lost their homes during the Lahaina Fire by any chance?

Mostly just the GFS.

Keep in mind we’re approaching the time of year where the GFS will do absolutely anything to dig a ULL/trough into the GOA then close it off. It will sell its soul if that is what’s required to trap a ULL there.

Wrong island.   And Maui was really bad last year as well when we were there...same thing on beaches and in parks and that was before the fires.   I bet most of these people came from the mainland during the pandemic to take advantage of the situation.   Its living off the grid run amok.

Not warm enough there yet!    We will be there in April again though.   April seems to be one of the best months to visit there.

April-June is probably ideal for your kind of trip. Not humid yet, but lots of warm, sunny days.

Crazy. Clear upward trend but an all time Jan low smacked right in the middle of it. Some stations in central Montana broke their old records by 10F. That state has been on fire (for lack of a better term) this century.

Another night that could have been cold ruined by cloud cover.

Nothing worse than being in a cold trough and not being able to get below normal temps...except on the highs.

Weird, we were in Maui last summer before the fires and didn’t see anything like you are describing. And we went to a bunch of public beaches with lots of little kids in tow!

It wasn't nearly as bad as what we have seen in Oahu... but the drive between the aquarium and the resort areas north of Lahaina was about 20 miles of camps set up between the highway and the beach at this time last year.   From Lahaina northward it wasn't an issue though.   I read that west Oahu is the worst area in the state for this situation so my perception is probably skewed right now.   We have driven all the way around the Big Island multiple times and public beaches are parks were pristine all the way around except for a few spots right in Kona.   But this side of Oahu is not good in terms of public land along the water.  And it's such a naturally beautiful area.   The geography and shoreline on this side of the island are truly incredible.

so where is he supposed to go to the bathroom?  businesses often keep their doors to bathrooms locked in big cities.  why don't you contribute some of your $$$ to help the homeless, go volunteer at a soup kitchen or shelter.  they're not the problem, our 'system' is the problem.  If you're not helping find solutions you're just part of the capitalistic problem
