Just as I smugly predicted a while ago, this non-event delivered nothing. Bottomed out at 35º overnight in Everett.

Nothing more satisfying than pontificating on the many reasons the Puget Sound lowlands are not, and never will be, snow friendly terrain, then having that validated in real time. 🥲

More appropriate (imo) to do it from the snowhole city proper than from high upon the gilded foothills 🤣

Nice looking mountain snow producer.  Possibly some more snow in the air for the lowlands. Could be a decent setup for a good PSCZ though.

Nah…This is going to be better than that by the time we get closer. It’s going to follow January 1996 where the Kitsap Peninsula gets nailed about 2 weeks or so before we all get blasted…Going to be a redux of that!

Elevation 580’ Location a few miles east of I-5 on the Snohomish Co side of the Snohomish/Skagit border. I love snow/cold AND sun/warmth!

If y'all want to post and analyze GFS 10:1 snow maps for a 35 degree snow event that is clearly sensitive to fine-scale terrain, that's totally fine. It sure seems like the professionals at NWS Portland are taking those into account in their forecasts, so I suppose it's fair game for this forum as well.

Not you or anyone knows when to follow the 10.1 ratio map. To many Terrain variables. Sometimes the 10.1 maps verify. 2019 comes to mind. And a bunch of others. Last night was around 6.1 here.

shiits ripping, snowing and blowing.  30mph+ gusts.  periodic near whiteouts.  no way to measure anything at this point.  pixie dust vortices blowing down the street occasionally.  looks like a windy day on a beach with sand blowing.

Temps down to 25, WC is 16, DP is up to 22

Geese are flying in circles, lol

But facts are facts and not even a Nino can stop it from snowing in February.  This was a fairly widespread event. All of kitsap has 2-6 and 1-5 Shelton to Olympia and South some and west.

I mean…yes it can. Esp in niño winters w/ strong/stable PV & +NAM tendency.

Thanks to -QBO & other factors, this winter has been blockier than most stronger niños.

6:1 is the Kuchera ratio for 34 degrees F.

Not saying Kuchera is perfect...10:1 is totally fine for the 30-32 F range that encompasses the majority of snow events. I'm not going to crusade against 10:1 maps.

Partly sunny and a little breezy this morning, up to 39 after a low of 36. Can see the foothills to the east had  some snow last night. But just slushy rain down here unfortunately.

Had a decent amount of it, close to 1”

What is causing the blockier Nino? Its almost like February has some magic driving force, 8 years straight Feb has delivered a moderate to strong snow event for parts of western Washington
