Maybe this’ll be the CFS’s once-per-decade coup.

It's over man. This winter is done and dusted. Might as well cheer for as much ridging as possible.

Just took a look at this.

6 of the last 7 -ENSO SSW events were followed by pattern change to significantly colder temperatures over the west. That includes big ones like 1988/89 and moderate ones like 2017/18. Pretty solid stuff. There’s also 2018/19 which was a Niño. Seems to be working out well of late.

One exception is 1999/00, though much of the US did turn frigid for 2 weeks before the torch resumed. I suspect the Indian Ocean had a hand in screwing that winter up.

This is why people who are cancelling winter already need to be more patient. There is a solid chance of a SSW event in January. If we can pull one off early in the month, we could be looking at a mid month arctic blast. The models won't pick up on the pattern change for a while. Saying "winter cancel" in early December is just silly.

For the record, I do NOT like sour cream.

Oh heck yes.

The stuff just overpowers everything it gets put on. Blech.

I'll take it a step further. Most of the white condiments suck: Mayo, sour cream, cream cheese, tartar, even whipped cream...

They could all be banished to hell and I wouldn't give a rip!

This might be a dumb question, but how far west does a hood canal snow event go to? Does it just stay in the hood canal or does it reach Bremerton?

Depends. Sometimes it makes it all the way to Bainbridge Island. Note that this does not mean Bainbridge gets the full, say, 4–6" the Hood Canal gets… it means Bainbridge gets a slushy dusting when Seattle gets nothing but rain. Bremerton Airport, being on a plateau, might score an inch or two in such a scenario.

Thanks. I never really paid it much attention until I was driving through the Hood Canal this past weekend

That does not look too shabby. Why are we not talking about this but instead talking about people’s preferences?

Elevation 580’ Location a few miles east of I-5 on the Snohomish Co side of the Snohomish/Skagit border. I love snow/cold AND sun/warmth!
